    Hey there!

My boyfriend spilt wine on my laptop yesterday :S Accidents happen, nevermind, but when I try to switch on my laptop nothing happens at all. However, Dell Media Direct loads perfectly when I press its button, and I can see all my movies etc and play them fine.

I'm guessing the circuit must be broken somewhere now, and the power-on button is broken. Since its right before Christmas I know I have no chance of getting it fixed before the new year, but I'm desperate to get some files off this thing before then. Really important stuff, its driving me crazy that it wont turn on.

Is there any way to load XP from Media Direct? Or even the boot screen showing safe mode etc? Ive looked around and there doesn't seem to be any options. Putting in the installation cd makes a whirring noise but that doesnt load either....

Any ideas would be much appreciated!!

haha i wouldn't want to be your boyfriend right now! :D Is it still under warranty? If not your probably going to have to open er' up and see if there a loose connection somewhere where or clean off the whine.

Yeah the warranty is up in March luckily. I'll give them a ring, was looking for a quick fix in the meantime ;)
