Opened my M1210 today and saw nothing. Shut it off and still saw nothing upon powering it back on. No POST screen or anything but windows loaded and gave me the initial sound. Upon close inspection I can see the screen but the backlight is toast. Common issue? Anything else that could cause this?

Not sure if it's a common issue with the M1210, but it happens. I doubt anything out of the ordinary caused it; it probably just died in the same way that a light bulb dies. And yes, some light bulbs last longer than others.

backlight can die... its just electronics

either a) if you stil have warranty (doubt it)
    b) ebay/find another m1210 backlight and swap it
    c) get an external monitor and your laptop = new desktop

Yeah its just electronics but it irks me that this thing kicked the bucket in 2 years and I have other LCDs in the house going 5+ years strong being used all day every day. Oh well...

    a) long gone
    b) I guess thats the plan
    c) already doing that for now but I kind of want my laptop to be portable...

Odd... The other night I was messing with it and noticed that if I set my display properties from only my external LCD to duplicate that the backlight would flash on. I put the laptop in hibernate mode and upon returning to windows my issue was fixed. Hibernated all night and it worked all day the following day. Hibernated through the night and now my backlight is gone again. Could it be the inverter or something?
