Hi guys, it's an owner to join such an informative/ friendly form :)

I have the M1330 system and after the crazy vertical lines and freezing over and over, the motherboard is replaced now.

My wonder/worry is, AM I able to use my notebook w/out the fear of the same issue coming again ?!

Any post is appreciated. Thanks in advance
    Cheers

Well, i've had an M1330 since December 2007 and it's been fine.

Although I don't really stress it much, as in no gaming, just internet, paint.net and Microsoft Office 2007.

Maybe the fan rules in the latest BIOS will keep the GPU cool enough to stop it disintegrating. If not, I'd give it about the same life span under the same usage conditions.

I know someone who has several M1330s for their business and they have all needed the GPU to be replaced.

    WOW, that's awful!

I guess i've just been lucky then? Although I should again stress that my usage is FAR from typical. I mean the most taxed my GPU gets is simply rendering Aero.

I wonder how long my M1330 would last if I started gaming on it? Probably not long by all accounts? :(

Mhtar, if you got your motherboard replaced then use your laptop without worrying about anything, its far from failing, and i really don't think new motherboards fail as much as old ones.

    cheers!

Mind you, if you got a mobo replacement from Dell, its refurbished, so its bound to fail anyway.

I don't mean to hijack this thread but I thought this was somewhat related.

I had the same problem last week too. I called in to Dell and they are sending out a tech with a new MB. However, while I was playing with the laptop to try to backup data just to be safe, somehow the laptop started working again. The only thing crazy is the fan runs really loud and at very random times - very abnormal in my opinion. I am concerned that when the tech comes out this week that they might not replace anything considering that the laptop seems to be working right now. I am afraid the problem would come back if the parts don't get replaced.

Do you think that the tech would not replace parts? If so, any suggestions on what I can do to convince the tech that they need to be replaced?

If your laptop is working fine when the tech comes, just tell him to change it anyway. I had a replacement for the whole mobo because of a faulty card reader which magically worked when the tech used his card. He just replaced the mobo for me and wrote in his report "media card reader not working."

It doesn't make sense for them not to replace it for you if it has failed you before. Just because its working when he comes, doesn't mean it won't crash on you when he's gone.

Or maybe its just my tech.

I just got a call from Dell tech who's coming out tomorrow. I asked him what all was ordered for replacement and he said that he'll be coming in with a MB, Fan assembly, and a screen.

Hopefully I get a tech who at least replaces the MB and the fan assembly. I think the screen is just fine so I don't think I'd want that to be replaced at all. We'll see what happens.

It can keep happening, I'm getting my 4th motherboard replaced, all because of nvidia.
