Hi,
I have been running Windows 7 x 64 on my M1330 fitted with a Intel X-25M SSD for a few weeks now and all seems ok. I did have problems with the Ricoh card reader driver but downloaded the latest 64bit Win7 driver for the XPS 1645 from the Dell site (manually installed rather than using the setup.exe installer). All of the other drivers and control software I installed was Dell Vista x64 drivers specifically for the M1330. This is a summary of what I installed:
BIOS = M1330 A15 R207196 (Nvidia confirm that A14 or greater must be installed before updating the video drivers to the latest).
Dell Webcam Manager = M1330 PRC 2.0 A04 R168730 (Vista x64).
Dell Quickset = SXPS 1645 A01 9.6.8 (Win7 x64) R233340.
Audio Drivers (SIGMATEL STAC 92xx C-Major HD Audio) = 10.0.6267 (Win7 x64) drivers are available from this non-dell site. They work very well indeed.
Intel Mobile Chipset = 9.1.1.1025 downloaded from this non-Dell site.
Ricoh R5C833 Driver = SXPS 1645 - A02 (Win7 x64) R234107 - Manually installed via device manager - do not use the setup.exe.
Laptop Webcam Driver & Software = M1330 A05 Refresh 3 - 1.0 Release R173082 (Vista x64).
Touchpad Drivers = Dell has released some new drivers for the SXPS 1647 (15.0.18.0, A09) and these include some of the latest features such as spiral scroll and centre button. There is a newer Synaptics/HP driver (15.0.24.0) that can be downloaded from this forum. This enables other features such as multi-touch (bit of a gimmick) and momentum functionality which really enhances touchpad use. If you want both functionality then install the HP drivers.
Ethernet = Broadcom 12.2.2.1 Win7 x64 drivers R240856 is later than Win7 default.
Dell Wi-Fi card (1505 draft-n) = M1330 A17 4.170.25.17 / 4.170.25.12 R174292 (Vista x64) work ok. If you want Win7 x64 drivers then the latest is 5.60.18.8 A30 R242438. These cannot be installed using the setup.exe. Instead, extract the files and install the drivers manually using device manager.
Intel® Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN = The latest 13.1.1.1 Win7 x64 driver can be downloaded from the Intel Website.
Bluetooth = M1330 A00 6.0.1.3100 & FW216 R140135 (Vista x64).
Fingerprint Reader Application = M1330 A00 5.6.2.3705 R186441 (Vista x64). Install this first then the newer drivers.
Fingerprint Reader Driver = Latest driver pack (2.19) from UPEK website.
Geforce 8400M GS Video = Latest recommended Win7 x64 driver pack from nVidia website (257.21).
Creative X-Fi Xtreme Audio Notebook = 1.04.0000 driver pack from Creatives own website.
Dell D400 USB 56k Modem = M1330 A00 DLD1.21 R156778 (Win7 x64) - The only official Win7 driver for the M1330.....I did not bother installing this as have never used the modem lol.
Hope the above info is of use to anyone.

WIN 7 ON M1330 XPS has been post before.
Fact the media card drivers for M1330 XPS work in Win 7 as I had been using these without issues but when Win 7 driver came out for SXPS 1645 I used those along with the audio driver.
Vista audio driver for M1330 work fine unless your using chat programs -Skype/ live messenger mic audio has feedback and drop outs but SXPS audio driver fixes this problem.
Video drivers I have no problem with the Win 7 drivers from Laptopvideo2go.com
All other drivers had been install from Win7 install.
Intel Matrix Storage drivers Win7 install those while I did the install of Win7 with internet connection. -
As I'm in the process of installing W7 64bit on XPS M1330 (with Intel SSD gen2), I'm bringing this thread to life.
1. to my knowledge, Intel chipset drivers WON'T install any storage driver at all (that's just bunch of infs for PCI/USB/Memory cfgs). That's what Intel_Matrix_Storage driver is for. But I've also heard Intel isn't supporting TRIM in their drivers, so that's correct.
2. Have you been succesful with installing 64bit audio drivers taken from Studio XPS 1645? I'm using VoIP software a lot so microphone input is needed.
3. is it really better to use media-card reader from Studio XPS M1330? I assume yes as XPS M1330 doesn't list _any_ win7 drivers (though vista will do in most cases as driver model is the same)
4. Windows shouldn't install Intel storage driver automatically, with or without internet connection, that is a new information for me (unless you've done win update and chosen to download/install them from WU repository). -
Hi,
1) It seems intel have split this out. The earlier ones supplied by Dell did try to install the Matrix Storage Drivers but I downloaded the latest 9.1.1.1023 from http://www.station-drivers.com/page/intel%20chipset.htm and they work fine.
2) No I have stuck with the Vista 64bit 1300 drivers as these seem to work ok for my needs. I don't use Skype but do use MSN and the mic works ok so have not ventured elsewhere. If you find better drivers, please let me know.
3) I initially installed the M1330 vista x64 drivers and although these went in ok the media reader stopped working with my Sony MemoryStick Pro Duo card, which I use a lot with my PSP. To remedy this I installed the Sudio XPS1645 windows 7 x64 drivers. I did not install using the setup.exe as this failed to work but installing the manually worked ok as suggested on another forum.
4) No it did not install the matrix storage automatically but after a few days of activity I had an Action Center message confirming later drivers were available on trying this it downloaded the current Intel Matrix drivers, which I knew did not support TRIM. I did not install them and archived the message so it did not bother me again.
Intel will eventually get around to releasing a TRIM version...but I am guessing they are still busy sorting out their TRIM firmware installer at the mo to be thinking about anything else. hehe. -
when I installed and ran Driver Robot on my XPS1330m it showed a lot of drivers were old and needed to be updated. I have installed Windows 7 64 bit and updated all the drivers via Dell's website. So my question is can this utility be trusted or has any one used it with Windows 7?
-
I cannot access the driverrobot.com website from work as my work internet software blocks the site as being a spyware risk. I have never used such software but can I assume this is free to download that inspects your PC and if it finds something it thinks you need, it reports this but requires you to pay if you want to know what can be updated? If this is the case then I would be suspicious that it is saying that I need something so that I will pay them some cash to tell me what. I wonder what would happen if you pay them and then find out there is nothing available? Could you claim your money back? Whilst there may be newer drivers out there for the M1330, if your laptop is working fine with the ones you have already installed or I have quoted above then I see no reason to search for others.
New drivers can be released for many reasons:
1) Fix problems
2) Provide greater support for newly released hardware / software
3) Update OS compatibility
4) Provide newer functionality.
The XPS M1330 has pretty much reached the end of it's life and Dell won't be selling it for much longer. In view of this it is unlikely that newer drivers offering better functionality will be created / released by them. As such, the current drivers are pretty much up to date / bug free for XP / Vista setups. For the most, these should also work with Windows 7 but where this is not the case I have suggested some alternatives above. I will keep adding to this thread if I find others.
Current outstanding issues include:
a) Sound card drivers seem to be a little buggy with VoIP (e.g. Skype)...although seem to work fine with everything else.
b) Still no SSD TRIM supporting Intel Matrix Storage drivers although the Windows 7 ones work fine as an interim. Intel have confirmed that they are working on this but have not confirmed expected dates. -
Been using these driver since their release and audio is much better now on Skype works without issues. -
my webcam was working fine, but suddenly it's stop working.
i have win7.
i have the driver disk for reinstalling dell webcam manger.
but i can't make it work..
please help -
I have updated the main post with the latest installed drivers as recommended throughout the forums and here. There are a few from the Studio 1645 that seem to work better.
In respect of the webcam....that is weird. I have checked mine and it is definitely working with the Vista x64 M1330 drivers and webcam manager. Is it still appearing in the device manager? If not then perhaps have a hardware issue. -
-
-
Did you try completely removing the old drivers first? Give this a try before installing the new ones. I am running the sxps 1645 drivers and they work ok without affecting system.
-
Thanks for the feedback! I'll try the sxps drivers again. I'm using the vista x64 right know. How can I best remove this driver? Last time I just uninstalled SimgaTel Audio from the software list.
-
-
Thanks for the tips. I've installed the Win7 drivers again. I thought this time was more stable, but now I get crashes with skype. I can't even get online anymore. And also there is no sound anymore. A reboot will probably help, but skype will crash again. Does anyone have more tips, because if it stays like this I'm going back to the vista x64 drivers again. I'm using the latest skype version.
-
Have you got 2 OS on your laptop? If so are there any problem with your other OS? If possible post the error code here.
1st time I'm hearing about issues like yours on the M1330.
What if any firewall and antivirus are you running? -
I didn't have to install drivers for the media card slot. Now have the following drivers installed: bluetooth (Bluetooth_Broadcom_V7a_6.2.1.500), nvdia drivers from their site, Touchpad (sxps1645) and the IDT right now.
No, I've only 1 OS on my laptop (Windows 7 Ultimate x64), but before I had windows XP and I didn't have any problems. I don't get an error code, but Skype sometimes just begins to act weird. Like getting a call end I can't answer it or deny it, but the sounds still keeps ringing. If I restart Skype it can't go online anymore. Reboot is the only solution that worked for me now.
I'm running a few hours now without a problem, but haven't got any Skype calls this time. I've tried those drivers before, but then it was worse. I got many crashes in IE if I used flash, but don't get this anymore. It looks like every time I try this driver I got other issues. I hope there will be an update for this driver maybe that will solve it. Or will a reformat help you think?
I'm running NOD32 antivirus and standard windows 7 firewall I think. -
This one is puzzling even me I did read someplace some issues with skype crashing Win7 but that was do to a 3rd party firewall.
If you unistall SXPS 1645 audio drivers and use default microshi* drivers or even vista drivers do you still have error crashes? Yeah I know audio will still be crap on skype but just to see if these problem persist otherwise I just do a clean install while on line OS, drivers, program it's a pain I know but worth a try.
Good luck -
No I didn't notice any problems with the vista or the default drivers. I just have updated my nvidia drivers to the latest and reinstalled Skype, this time without all the extras (PluginManager etc.). I’ll see or this helps, if not, than a format is my last option.
-
I got too many IE and chrome crashes today, thought the problem were the drivers. But still got IE crashes with the vista drivers ;s. I think my OS is acting weird, I'm probably going to do format soon. Every time I try to go to the following link my IE crashes: http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/144-idtsigmatel-support/ (it's probably this site in combination with IE (after long loading it ask if I want to end the script), because I got no crashes in chrome)
I found this 2 topics for IDT driver:
http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/topic/23793-latest-sigmatel-idt-drivers/
http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/topic/23790-latest-sigmatel-idt-modded-drivers-for-win-7-and-vista/
I think they work for the M1330 too. Don't know or they are better than the dell ones. -
Well you could try those drivers but each to their own as I and many have no issues with IE/FF with default or SXPS1645 drivers after I had confirmed they work fine.
Like you say a re-format might help plus those drivers in ur link best of luck to you. -
This is a bit of a strange one as apart from the card reader not supporting MS pro duo cards (now fixed with sxps1645 drivers manually installed), I had no problems with my Win7 install. In fact the laptop is a real joy to use again...especially with the uber quick SSD.
Granted I have never used Skype so no idea whether it would work with my config but MSN video / voice chat seems to work ok. The fact your system is crashing a fair bit is a little worrying and perhaps a re-build may now be your best option.
I don't suppose there could be W7 issues with Skype? -
-
That is really strange that it has issues with one application though. As I said the mic on my M1330 works as well as it did on Vista x86 but then I only use MSN, which is why I thought it might be an application specific problem. Hopefully there will be newer drivers around soon.
-
I have updated my main post to include links to all the drivers and their R codes, where missing. In doing this I have noticed later drivers for:
Audio
Ethernet 59xx
Wi-Fi 1505
Fingerprint Application - The newer application is 19mb where the existing is 6mb.
Nvidia 8M series Video Card
I will have a play with them later and if they work I will remove links to the older drivers. -
I have updated the main post with results of experiments:
Audio - The later drivers do seem better so I have removed the SXPS 1645 link.
Ethernet - This is a newer driver than the default windows driver so have put the link there.
Wi-Fi - The newer drivers seem to work well but cannot be installed using the setup.exe installer.
Fingerprint Reader Application - On installing it confirms that a newer version is already installed. I guess this is the driver file as such just left the original links set up.
Nvidia 8M series video card - Newer drivers work well, including with HDMI. -
Do the newest Synaptics drivers have the two button middle click? This was missing for me last time I tried them. Oh and same with two finger scroll (although that wasn't included with the Studio XPS ones).
-
14.0.3 does not seem to offer two button middle click functionaliy or two finger scrolling. I know the M1330 is compatible with both as I used to run a hacked version that provided both. Unfortunately the official software does not and it is a bit of a pain.
I suppose the reason they do not include this, even though the trackpad on the M1330 fully supports it, is so that users will buy new laptops specifically offering the functionality. I guess Dell is to blame lol. -
I'm using the Vista SigmaTel drivers with 7 and the audio in Skype likes to cut out. Is this the cause? When I try updating to the latest IDT drivers they install fine but I have no sound from the internal speakers.
-
"Cause & Effect "
Have you checked the audio settings?
Control panel > Sound
Playback device = Speakers > ITD .......Au..... default device
Recording device = Mic Array > ITD .......Au..... default device
for each of the above select a device now > Configure and run through the setup of each device and save (apply now OK ) EXIT.
OR
Control panel > IDT Audio Control Panel you can adjust setting from within here..
Good luck. -
Updated main page with new UPEK 2.19 fingerprint driver package and note for audio drivers in that the ones suggested are the last to offer support for the M1330 (and I guess M1530) audio chips.
-
Attention: This driver can be used only with older versions of Protector Suite QL (5.2-5.8) or with legacy version of Protector Suite 2009 otherwise no sensor/reader will be detected! -
Aye, the version supplied with the XPS range was 5.6.2 and this driver works fine on my M1330 so should be ok on the rest.
-
I installed the touchpad driver on the first post but I can't see an option to click left and right button together.
I had this on vista so pressing both together would open another tab in IE8 on the same browser window. -
I have updated the main post to include a link to the new Synaptics / HP touchpad drivers that enables multi-touch on the M1330. I have them installed and they work great.
-
-
I have updated the main page has nVidia has now released an update to their graphics drivers (197.16). These new drivers are very good and I have noticed a minor speed increase in boot up times and better performance when connected to my plasma via HDMI.
-
For the multi-touch feature, what exactly can I do differently? I've noticed the edge-scroll has been replaced with two-finger-scroll. Is it suppose to do funky things like Apple computers?
P.S. Thanks for keeping things updated! Great resource seeing how Dell seems to even lack a 64-Bit option on their support site. -
Unfortunately the hardware is not good enough to provide us with apple like pinch zoom and other such niceties. I have now disabled two finger scroll as it was a bit patchy but I have momentum enabled which allows much nice movement of the pointer and the chiral motion scrolling, which is much better than the standard. Best thing is to play with the functions to find what suites you best.
-
i'd just like to mention that this thread is awesome. I decided today to go for 64bit windows 7 (upgrading from factory 32 bit vista), and this thread has made my life much easier.
-
I have updated the main page as nVidia has just released 257.21 driver pack, which includes support for the lastest flash 10.1. Have installed them and they seem very stable.
-
What are the Intel Mobile Chipset drivers for? Never have installed this, do I need it?
For the people who have Intel® Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN. Can also look here for drivers: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Sea...ductProduct=Intel®+Wireless+WiFi+Link+4965AGN -
Chipset drivers are stored and loaded from the hard disc like all other drivers. These specifically tell Windows about the capabilities of the various components of your motherboard. Windows includes support, at the most basic levels for all those devices but the driver package from the chipset manufacturer usually has much greater performance than the standard (generic) Windows set.
Whether you will notice any difference with or without them installed I have no idea...but the link for them is there in case you want to install them.
I have added your link for the WiFi card. Cheers for the info. -
Thanks for the info.
I've almost have all the same drivers installed as you. I haven't installed any CardReader drivers and don't have any problems yet, so I don't think those Ricoh drivers are necessary. I also think the bluetooth driver from the xps 1645 is better and newer. I also don't have any drivers installed for the Fingerprint Reader (basic win 7 drivers?), do those in the topic start have any advantage? -
The cardreader drivers are installed in two parts. Windows7 includes basic drivers for the SD card part but does not have anything for the Sony Memory Stick reader part. This will need installing as confirmed in my original post.
The Bluetooth drivers you have linked to are for the Dell Truemobile 370 module but the M1330 was generally fitted with the 355. My card works great with the confirmed drivers unless you or anyone else knows different?
Windows7 comes with basic fingerprint drivers but I found it worked better with the proper ones.....but entirely up to you. -
Ah ok, I didn't used Sony Memory Stick yet. So isn't a really problem for me.
I tried the vista bluetooth drivers, but I couldn't get it work with my phone and the win7 x64 drivers of xps 1645 did work. That's my experience.
Hmm ok, I'll try the fingerprint drivers later. -
That is interesting news about the BT drivers. Out of interest can you have a look at your device manager to see what card you have installed? If it is the 355 then I may give those newer drivers a go.
-
Dell Truemobile 355 Bluetooth + EDR
But I think there are newer drivers on the internet. -
Hmm, I am not sure what the newer drivers provide but having looked at the specs the 355/360 support up to bluetooth v2.0 +EDR and 370 up to v2.1. I see that the broadcom website allows you to install it's own drivers so I might give them a try....having said that the ones I linked to in my original post have been faultess for me.
