I've just tried the touchpad drivers from your startpost, but both of them don't support middle button click, by clicking both buttons. I use this all the time.
So I've installed the newest touchpad drivers of xps 1645
-
Thanks for the continued update. Can you confirm what other functionality the new drivers offer. I assume the middle button click is when you press the two buttons together? What pointer options are there with the new drivers? I use Momentum and ChiralScroll options alot and would probably not go for the newer drivers if they did not deliver this?
-
Well I have installled the SXPS 1645 touchpad drivers and they are newer than the HP ones I installed and seem to be newer than the ones available on the Synaptics site. On a functionality front the centre click works as does the spiralscroll. The only thing missing is the Momentum funtion.....although having said that it is still working on mine and I wonder if that has been left over from the older HP driver as the registry settings remain on the system as does my two / three finger gestures that you can only set up using the HP software.
I wonder if it is worth installing the HP drivers first and setting this up and then installing the Dell drivers on top. As such I have updated the main links with the new drivers and th HP ones I used to have installed as Momentum is quite cool (flick of the finger makes the mouse move and it carries on for a bit after releasing).
On the BT driver front I have decided to stick with the official M1330 drivers that work find with Win7 x64 and I have had no problems at all with any BT device.
Obviously if someone can confirm what is new with these SXPS 1645 370 drivers and that it definitely offers a performance gain then I will update the main page. -
Thanks for the advice to install both drivers. It idd works. Normally I uninstall the old one first. The only thing what was holding me back to use the multitouch drivers was not having the centre click function, but installing both drivers I have both
. I've momentum enabled, but I'm not very used of this function. But I've to uninstall the new drivers first to disable the function xD.
About the BT drivers. My experience is, that I had problems to send things from my phone to my laptop and vice versa with the vista drivers. With the win7 x64 drivers I have not found any problems yet. -
Hehe nice to know. I have a feeling that all the touchpad new functionality is available but it needs the Dell front end to be able to control it. Shame Dell has decided not to give this functionality, which makes it a bit of a pain adjusting the hidden stuff, unless you know where to look in the registry.
Re the BT drivers, I have had no such issues so will leave the main page as is but if I ever start struggling I will try the new ones and update the main page. -
With the latest Dell mouse drivers installed, you can amend the Momentum and EdgeMotion State options using regedit without having to re-load the old drivers.
Momentum provides a trackball like movement with the cursor continuing to move as you flick the finger across the touchpad surface. Touch the pad again to stop the movement.
EdgeMotion allows the cursor to continue moving in the direction of your last finger when your finger reaches the edge of the touchpad. Releasing your finger stops this movement.
Within Regedit, locate the following key:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Synaptics\SynTP\TouchPadPS2]
With in here locate:
EdgeMotion
"EdgeMotion"=dword:00000003
"EdgeMotionSpeed"=dword:0000010a
Double click on each to amend to the following values
EdgeMotion = 8 (No Edge Motion)
EdgeMotion = 1 (Edgemotion only when dragging - Fixed Speed)
EdgeMotion = 5 (Edgemotion when dragging and pointing - Speed based on pressure applied by finger)
EdgeMotion = 3 (Edgemotion when dragging and pointing - Fixed Speed)
EdgeMotion = 7 (Edgemotion when dragging and pointing - Speed based on pressure applied by finger)
If you select either of the fixed speed options then the speed value comes into play.
EdgeMotionSpeed = 7 (Default value and fairly slow)
EdgeMotionSpeed = 10a (A quicker speed that I use)
Momentum
"MomentumMotion"=dword:00000001
"MomentumMotionFriction"=dword:00000005
Double click on each to amend
MomentumMotion = 0 (Function Off)
MomentumMotion = 1 (Function On)
If Momentum is switched on then the friction value is applicable.
MomentumMotionFriction = 5 (Default Speed which seems ok but if you want the cursor to travel less distance then reduce and more distance then increase this number).
You might need to reboot / lock and unlock your PC to enable the amended features. -
Hello,
This forum has been a great help! I have a few questions regarding issues with drivers that I have encountered.
1. The LED for the webcam will blink a few times and then I get a prompt saying that some USB device is not running as fast as it could (2.0). I have updated the USB drivers as per the first post.
2. Upon wake (either from hibernate or sleep) bluetooth will not work. If I go to the device manager, I see that bluetooth is present, but with a yellow exclamation point over the BT icon and no Microsoft BT enumerator. To get it to work again, i have to disable the hardware and reenable it. I have tried the vista drivers, and the sxps 1645 drivers. Both do this. Any ideas?
Also, do you know of anyway to update the USB root hub drivers?? I know that microsoft make these, but they are really old (2006, Ver 6.1.7600.16385)
Thanks in advance for the help! -
I have a feeling that both the webcam and bluetooth module are plugged into the USB bus. Have you installed the latest Intel Chipset drivers I posted on the main topic post? After installing this, reboot and then proceed to the device manager. If you are still having problems with these devices then manually uninstall both and install the latest drivers as described and see how you get on then. If this still fails to sort your problems then you have me stumpted as both have worked flawlessly on my system.....hmmm weird.
-
I did install the Intel Chipset drivers that you have in the original post. They did not install by themselves, so I had to manual install each of the Universal Host Controllers manually. The only issue was that I could not install the the Root Hubs or Composite Device (Could you check their version in your device manager?)
By manually uninstalling do you mean clicking uninstall in device manager or going into the windows directory and forcibly deleting the files? -
Hi,
I've tried to install W7 Professional X64.
The only problem I have is with the card reader driver.
I've unpacked it, but when I try to manually install it, I can't because it says there is no x64 driver. BTW, W7 recognized my card reader
The same happened when I tried to manually install the Dell 1505 wi-fi driver for W7. I finally installed the Vista x64 driver.
-
Hmmm, this is quite strange but not uncommon. The above drivers will work but you do need to install them manually.
In respect of the card reader there should be three devices installed in your device manager. Go to the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers section and you should see Ricoh Memory Stick Controller (I bet this is missing), Ricoh SD/MMC Host Controller an Ricoh xD-Picture Card Controller. Extract the files for the card reader and manually install drivers from the R234107\83x_WIN7 folder without using the setup.exe
I am surprised you still have three devices not installed. At least one of them will be the Ricoh memory stick reader as the basic Windows7 install only installs the SD/MMC part.
What else do you think is missing? Bluetooth, Webcam, Quickset? Check out device manager and see if there are any clues in here.
If you need more help then post up as all these drivers definitely work with Windows 7 x64 as they are running on my machine now. -
There is no longer the need to install StudioXPS M1647 Synaptics Touchpad Drivers, as those on the HardwareZone forum from HP are the newest at the moment:
New HP Touchpad Driver that Unlocks Multi-Touch on older Touchpad - www.hardwarezone.com.sg
on my XPS M1330M:
Synaptics TouchPad v15.0.24 dated 03 Jun 2010 -
Thanks for the update as that link used to have older drivers. I have updated the main thread with your info. I think I will stick with the Dell drivers as it has the important addition of being able to disable the touchpad automatically when my BT mouse is used.....that is unless there is a similar option on the HP drivers now?
-
smjohns,
I wanted to thank you for taking the time to create this post and continue to update it. After researching the compatibility of Windows 7 x64 with my Adobe products I decided to finally try and upgrade my system with Win 7 Pro x64 and increase the memory to 8GB. Your posting of all the correct drivers saved me hours of headaches, frustration and research. My system is up and running perfectly and my almost three year old system now has new life.
Thanks again! -
no worries. glad someone else is making use of a re-vitalised M1330.

Does anyone know how I can get the media buttons working with applications like Winamp and iTunes?
-
Hello, I have been trying to install the latest Quickset64 on my Win7 x64 M1330.
The installation happens, but then does not leave me any access to the program. I cannot find a .exe file on the hard drive related to it either, as if it had just run a fake install.
If I try to reinstall it, it runs the repair option, as if it really did install. Yet I can't find it anywhere on the machine. Any clue as to why? Or what to do? -
You should find it in the 64bit folder:
C:\Program Files\Dell\QuickSet
If it is working then press the mute / volume touch buttons and an icon should appear in the middle of the screen. -
I am getting the icon. So I guess something is running alright.
C:\DELL\drivers\R272666
This is the only directory I can find a quickset file, and it's the install files.
So there is no interface that I can use to adjust settings? -
If you right click on the battery meter in the lower right hand corner of the taskbar, then select Windows Mobility Center, that brings up the same screen as opening quickset.exe (at least on my computer)

Hi all,
M not a tech specialist n m in desperate help.
I ve installed windows 7 uninstalling vista. Problem is after logging in cpu fan runs very fast and gets switched off automatically after 5 minutes.
I ve installed windows 7 ultimate 64 bit.
Pleeeeeeeeeeeeease help -
Sorry but can you start a new thread as I am not sure this issue relates to the topic in hand. Obviously your first check should be that you have the latest bios but apart from that it could be anything.

Found a simple and a working solution for my SIGMATEL STAC 92XX C-Major HD Audio Drivers on Windows 7 - both audio and microphone are working fine and I'm running Vista Ultimate x64.
It can be found on here: SIGMATEL STAC 92XX C-Major HD Audio Drivers on Windows 7
I'll quote it as well just in case original page get's deleted:
-
I still can't get the microphone array to work though - have you had any luck? I'm not sure whether this is attached to the webcam driver or the soundcard drivers -
i'm double minded about updating to win7 after reading quite a hand full of horror stories about nvidia fails after their migration.
is there a slightest possibility that i may have received a fault free nvidia gpu considering that it's been running fine since 3 years (knocks on wood) with idle temps around 65c. ?
i'm on BIOS A15 , and nvidia drivers 186.21 for a year now ... OS = Vista.
what should i do? i'm fed up of this POS Vista -
please reply guys some help will be great.
-
The upgrade is definitely worth it! I would do it!
-
Definitely go for Windows 7 as the OS is miles ahead of Vista / XP. Also consider replacing your hard disc with an SSD to really make your laptop fly. -
smjohns,
What version of the bluetooth drivers are you using? Mine keep cutting in and out. I had a workaround for this, but I recently reinstalled, and I can't remember which ones I had. I tried the two mentioned in this thread, but to no avail.
Thanks,
IlPapu -
I am still using the ones linked to on the front page...post1 - R140135. Work perfectly without any issues.
-
Thank you for all the information !!! You guys saved me a lot of time!
-
Thanks for the great help with this install!!!!
