Hello,
I have not been able to exceed 100mbps speeds even with DIR-655 and DIR-825 on my M1330 with Intel 4965.
Opening the laptop I notice I do NOT have a gray wire!
I have 1 Black, 1 White, 1 Black/Gray Strip, 1 White/Gray Strip and one BLUE...
I checked the M1330 Manual there is no mention of a BLUE wire anywhere...
1) Anyone know what this blue wire is for? and Why I dont have a gray wire?
2) Should I move the 4965 (blue wire too short) and connect blue where in the gray wire is suppose to go?
I have an LED Screen

But I still dont know what this Blue wire is for !!
3) Does ANY LED screens come with the 3 antennas?
Could the blue wire be wireless usb? if so it operates at 3.1-10Ghz ? So can't I connect my wireless card to it to get better N performance?

Update:
I moved 4965N to Other Lan slot for blue cable to each. Connected it. Network Adapter didnt work... couldnt find any networks. (Running Windows 7) put everything back and its running again...
4) Any wireless antenna would work for the 3rd connection?

i also have the intel 4965 and i seem to get "n" speeds but i dont have the black/gray connected the to card, i think its suppose to be black, white, gray thats suppose to be connected to the card. and as for the blue wire i think thats if you install another bluetooth module that uses the pci-e (correct me if im wrong)

and the other slot is for wwan (mobile adapter). put it back to the original slot asap.

Well 2 of my questions are answered.'
1) Anyone know what this blue wire is for? and Why I dont have a gray wire?
wireless usb
2) Should I move the 4965 (blue wire too short) and connect blue where in the gray wire is suppose to go?
No, it won't work.
3) Does ANY M1330 LED screens come with the 3 antennas?
4) Any wireless antenna would work for the 3rd connection?
for example?

for your third question i think that all xps come with the same wiring since the screen has nothing to do with how many antennas come with the system (but yours seems to be missing the gray wire since i have that and you dont). The antenna is attached to the frame of the laptop itself (beside the webcam).
for the fourth im not going to say yes but as long as the connector looks like the ones in the laptop i dont see why not. But you would have to open your laptop for this because you would have to run the wire behind the screen. -

i have the regular lcd
-
I hope its not true that all the LED screens dont have the 3rd antenna... i'll have to buy one and place it in.

Has dell ever provided the 3rd antenna?
If I call and demand for a 3rd antenna tell them I am suppose to have it. would they send it? -
I was lucky to have a standard spare lid which a Tec left behind for me and I use a wire from this to give me the 3rd wire in my LED LCD screen. -
Do I void the warranty by adding a 3rd antenna?

My M1330 does have the gray antenna sitting unused, and it, too, is way too short to reach the 4965. Is there a small extender cable (an inch or so, I'm guessing) that would allow me to use this antenna as the third antenna for the 4965? Would it allow full 300 MBPS speed or is it possible with this card without the third antenna?
-
Cheapest option is to cut off the antenna wire with plug say 2cm long and solder on a bit of wire and heat shrink once done. -
I hate to bring up an old thread but I just want to verify that if I have an m1330 with 5 wires total (most likely the LED) that since I don't have a WWAN card I cannot just simply extend the grey wire (that is too short to reach the WLAN) to reach the WLAN card?
Otherwise where do you recommend purchasing an additional Wireless Antenna?
Thanks for your help. -
I thought the third wireless antenna was just used by the Intel card for diversity - my understanding is it will switch internally to whichever wire is giving the best signal... but if both wires are run through similar pathways I don't suppose that would help - in fact having another wire might actually degrade performance if it is absorbing or reflecting some of the radio signal.
Is there any evidence of an improvement to performance by attaching another wire? -
Just reroute the wire/s or use the blue wire if your not using it.
Antenna wires can be had from ebay.
