Thanks to both Cliegal & tileman i have created a pretty accurate overlay of the CCFL & LED.
Thanks you two:

For those that reckoned there wouldn't be much difference? I think there is lol
-
Interesting.
-
The CCFL casing does not even deserve to be matched with the sleek M1330. It makes the computer look fat and ugly.
-
CCFL on the left, LED on the right
-
That is some sexy stuff...
-
Djrm - u are the dude...
-
Wow. Huge difference there.
The LED is sexy. -
Nice analysis there. Very helpful.
-
CCFL isn't that bad though... I think I would be able to live with CCFL's thickness... but the m1330 prolly not worth the money then.
-
I am guessing eventually, once they clear the order backlog the CCFL option will disappear. I mean, most people are ordering the LED option currently anyways and the 2 MP webcam does not make that much of a difference because most video chats don't support that resolution.
-
I'm sure many people wish they had my fat CCFL in their hands right now!!
-
hehe, until i saw the comparison i would've said 100% yes, now i think i'll wait
-
Not many CCFL takers i see.
-
The LED might have been more tempting if it wasn't a £130 more over here (about $260). Also if we are talking size... many people have bought the slightly thinner LED then slapped on the massive 9 cell which adds far more to the size and weight than the CCFL.
-
i picked CCFL just because the LED option is no available in the website where i ordered
-
I call photoshopped.
There sure is a pretty big difference, but to be honest, I don't think it's any thicker than regular CCFL displays... You're all just spoiled by the thinness of the LED lid.
-
I am using CCFL right now... but I can't wait till I compare it with my LED screen... if I ever get it.
-
Didn't start off as £130, it was £80 originally
-
I think you're right. In fact if we didn't have pics of the LED version, people may not even think the CCFL looks 'fat' lol. Still the LED is definitely the better looking screen!
Hopefully when I get my CCFL, it won't look thick because I wont have a picture of a LED version slapped next to it
-
lol, the first thing i thought when Cliegal showed off her laptop was
that screen looks well chubby. Doesn't do the M1330 justice IMHO
-
Fair enough, my bad lol
-
Perhaps because you'd seen LED pics and after all, it's an M1330 so were expecting a thinner looking screen. With laptops in general, it is just an average CCFL screen which I personally have no probs with.
Enjoy your LED though, maybe keep a CCFL pic handy so you can remind yourself how much thinner yours is!
-
man you ppl are too fashion conscious about a laptop!!
-
rofl
Dont worry, at this rate ill be lucky to have a screen lit with candles this side of Christmas. -
Its not about fashion, its more s.ex appeal
-
lol well I thought mine would get here quicker, being a CCFL display and all... But it's taking a long time to waddle it's way here
-
AHAHAHAHAHa... Amazing.
-
either that or maybe Dell could solve the shortage by using these:

rofl. Golden. Absolutely golden.
It says I need to spread the wealth before I rep you again. But you will get it.
-
Awesome work djrm. Also thanks to both Cliegal & tileman for helping put this together so we can all compare.
For some its not a big factor, weight more than thinness is important. For others its not a fashion thing really. If it is, that is where the color options come into play, not the screen.
Dell advertises this as the sleekest and worlds thinnest laptop. Of course that is the main attraction to the LED and buying the XPS 1330 itself instead of an Inspiron or Sony SZ.
Its all marketing and professional photography Dell uses on thier website to charm us with the sleek thin profile. On the XPS 1330 page notice they put it against a black background showing the side profile. It just makes the silver stand out more and looks slimmer, the black casing just kinda fades with the background. They also proportion the photos, and touch them up a little bit focus your attention on the profile. All the other photos that demonstrate how slim the 1330 is from the side only show the side and not the front or back of the monitor so it doesnt distract from the thin side profile. Also with the silver edges its harder to pick up shadows and guage thickness.
Thankfully djrm, Cliegal, and tileman did a great job of contributing to this thread for us to compare. Great work and thanks!
I admit it does look sleeker and thinner on the Dell website and not as good on others. I hope Im not dissapointed when mine arrives. -
LOL... my friend has one of those. It's so annoying to wind them up but they are definitely bright!!!
-
Thanks arch! I thought it would be interesting to finally see what the difference would be.
If i had one of those i'd just tell it that a normal bulb was just as good ( that should wind it up nicely
)
-
Quite an analagy!!!
LMAO! Thanks -
That just looks like a dirty phrase.
-
Hrm...:/
HK only offers CCFL display. Suck. -
Dell website says the LED is only 2.5mm thinner, your image shows a far thinner LED display, maybe Dell have now made the CCFL thinner.
I have spent the extra on Intel® CoreTM 2 Duo T9300 which has 6MB of cache and is clocked 2.5 GHz. That eats the T7500 for breakfast, and it stays cooler.
-
I think that the thickness is because of the 2mp integrated webcam. It might be possible that vga ones are thinner and thus make the screens less thick.
-
I didn't know there was such a big difference. I'm tempted to change my order to LED now.
-
LOL, I only care if the thing is gonna last or not compared with each technology.
Couldn't care less how much thicker it is, I can tell ya that either are alot thinner than my 19" CRT Monitor on my Powermac G3 sitting in the back shed at home
... How would that equate into a photo using the scale already established?
