Just received a refurb M1330 yesterday and everything appears to work well except for this:

Closing the lid does not trigger standby/hibernate. I have set the action in power options, but it does not appear to be activating. I can manually put the system into sleep or hibernate and it functions properly.

It seems to me that the sensor cannot tell that the lid is being closed, as the screen never turns off, even when closed. All of my other laptops blank the screen when closed.

Does anyone have any idea how to troubleshoot this?

its usually the dell wireless card settings if it has a dell card. I have intel and after an update the media player settings(under the advanced in power settings) got changed. check that out too. there are other threads around too that are more detailed.

check and see if your screen even turns off when you close the lid. if it does not, call dell. tell them to replace your system, or replace your palm rest and motherboard.
i got my motherboard replaced and it failed to work just like you described. called dell and they made me try to put it to sleep using a magnet. once i proved to them that the screen would still stay on, i convinced them to replace my motherboard and palm rest.

Thanks for the info. I'll have to call Dell. I have gotten it to go to sleep by closing the lid, but i'd like to avoid any future problems.
