Well after just less then a year of service my M1330 was hit by the nvidia failure. With 17 days to ago on the warranty I guess this is the best time for it to happen if its going to. A quick call to the XPS service line has a new motherboard on the way to be installed.
This is the point were it gets interesting, I asked about the warranty enhancement from the dell blogs here
and was told that policy states because I am having a replacement in warranty I do not qualify for any warranty extension. I questioned the tech rep on were this policy was coming from, but she didn't really have a good explanation of the policy.
I feel this may have be reps trying to upsell me to buy a warranty extension, as everyone I talk to wanted to let me know that the warranty was running out and that a could buy an extension from them. If not it will really sour me on dell. Anyone know anything about this or been told the same thing?

That's horrible if true. The dell blogs do not list any exclusions. I have that blog saved to my hard drive just in case.....

I have to give the XPS service credit on speed they are sending a tech to replace the motherboard this afternoon (two days after I called). I got a call this morning to setup the appointment. If what the phone rep told me is true about the warranty, I may just sell the laptop before the board goes again while the system still has some value, but I'm not sure if it feels right to pass off my problem to someone else. I looked into the warranty extension but it's 1/4 to 1/3 of the cost of a another M1330 from the dell outlet for just a 1 year extension. At that point I think it would be cheaper to buy another outlet machine and just put my CPU, ram and HD in it and sell the older system for parts.

I really wish dell would really fix this problem not just hope it goes away, I really think their are going to lose customers over this. I had in the past highly recommended the M1330 to people looking for a small laptop and was just waiting for a good outlet coupon to buy one for my brother. Now with the motherboard problems I told him to look at other systems, as he needs a computer that he can count on lasting 3 plus years.

I guess at this point once the replacement board is installed, and the warranty runs out I will be doing the copper mod, as it seem to be the only hope of getting some more time out of the system.

Do the copper mod as soon as you get your system back. Just keep the thermal pad in case you have to swap it back in for any warranty work.
