so the other night, i passed out on my bed with my laptop to the side, woke up middle of the night to see my laptop face down on my hardwood floor. the display didn't crack, surprisingly, the only damage was the left hinge area which has a little less than a one inch crack in two areas.

laptop works just fine, when i close the lid i have to take some extra time to adjust the cracked hinge so it can close fine.

ive decided to buy a replacement cover, but wondering if anyone has done this repair on their own. would it be cheaper to take it to a tech to replace my lcd cover than to risk doing it on my own? any places in Orange County, CA that would do some kind of repair?

my accidental warranty plan expired a few months ago :(

If you take it to a repair shop they will charge you for a new part and for the labor. The job should take around an hour. You can do the job yourself though. For the parts check ebay.

This is the service manual for your laptop ( link). You'll need it to take the laptop apart :)

The screen disassembly procedure is explained here.
