Does anyone know if this was ever fixed? I've just received a new m1330 (used to have one about 5 months ago but got rid of it because of the screeching noise) and my new one did not do it.... but now it's just started doing it again!

Was just wondering if there is a means to correct it other than install Rmclock etc?

    Cheers

Is it the falsely named CPU whine you're talking about or something more drastic?

Because if it is, I don't know if there's anything you can do about it... I've learned to live with it. It seems to be less irritating when you undervolt your cpu (check forum for very good guide).

Yes- cpu whine. I'm tempted to return it and wait for a montevina xps but as we don't know when that's happening it's hard to make a decision!

I don't want to undervolt the cpu as I've paid for this perfomance- shouldn't have to bodge a fix on it! :(

This isn't a Dell issue, it's been noted in most products from most manufacturers built on the prior platform.

Can you please elaborate on the possible reasons and consequences of the noise?

    Cheers :)

It's caused when the cpu switches power states- doesn't do any harm. Just annoys the hell out of anyone that can hear it. :p
