I recently got a screen replacement on my 1330, and I *think* it's kinda dim (relatively speaking). I just...am not sure though. Both this screen and the previous are Toshiba (LCD2306).

I tried holding it up next to a laptop that supposedly was 200 nits on its brightness and it didn't seem much brighter, and I know the brightness is supposedly 300 nits on these...right? On the other hand, it seems maybe a little brighter than my desktop screen which isn't exactly a dim screen. Still, I almost feel as though it's stuck at one brightness level below maximum or something.

So, overall, it's not dim; actually reasonably bright. However, it seems less bright than I recall my other screen being. I haven't really heard much about sample variance on these, especially on the order of, say, ~100 nits dimmer. Any ideas, guys?

I don't think its supposed to be 300 nits. 200 sounds right.

Really? I had thought 300 nits was the supposed spec. I really seem to recall being impressed at the brightness I was getting when it had the previous screen and now it's just kind of...ordinary and even a little dimmer than I'd like when I'm in room with a strong overhead light.

I seem to recall one person in a thread a while back noting one of his 1330s with a toshiba screen was dimmer than another with a toshiba screen, but he said it was slight...I think. Maybe I'm just imagining things.

I did see a newish looking Latitude today and the screen seemed brighter than mine but I didn't have an opportunity to compare them side by side.

Anyone else have some thoughts on this? Maybe ideas on things I could compare it to for reference? Or...some other way to test?

    Bedis,

Thanks for replying. I appreciate it :)

Yeah, I'm not exactly sure how someone could visually show me their screen brightness since I'd be looking at the picture on, well, my screen >.<

However, what I'm looking for, I suppose, is comments on whether people have observed substantial variability in brightness with the LCD2306/Toshiba screen and whether anyone had any tips for me (other than purchasing a calibration device; haven't the money for that right now) for getting a rough estimation of whether it is unusually dim.

Hmm...I looked in the BIOS and couldn't find anything about the display brightness in terms of nits. Is there a specific place I should be looking; hidden option of some sort?

Dude i can tell u one thing that may b physiologically related.DO one thing surf the net whole day(10hrs),when ya eyes get strained enuf, set the display to max,if u r now able to see it more than 1min or so then ya brightness is correct,if u can see towards screen for abt 10 mins, then there may b issue.
Sry if m being foolish in answering it,but i find i think its the easiest method.I dont have an external monitor.

What brightness do I use it at for the ten hours? Bright room or dark room?

preferably dark room.Regarding brightness, dont use it at max-may be a step or two lower
If u could tell me how to calculate brightness(like wid a camera or cell camera-S312 ),i will surely tell you!

Hmm...maybe the better question is to ask how bright should the screen appear in, say, a well-sunlit room or something like that. For me, it's not super bright; not exactly dim, but could use maybe some more brightness I think.
