I've just noticed a dark line has appeared on my M1330 led screen- right across the top.... it goes right across the screen and is about 3mm thick.

You need to look right at the top (above the XPS M1330 text). It's there all the time! What can I do?? :(

Cheers guys- anyone know if I can request a certain brand of lcd for the replacement?

I'v got a Chi Mei screen at the moment and its a bit grainy- is the LG panel the one to go for?

Unfortunately, you cant specify the replacement brand. The tech ordering the part has no control over that either. He/she will enter a code for LED LCD, and the part will be shipped to you based on whatever is available from the supplier at the moment.

Having said that when the screens of our m1330s were replaced, I requested that the tech put a note for a Samsung screen, even though he told me that it may not make any difference. It was probably a coincidence, but I got 2 Samsung screens few days after that... May be you can try that... There are specific Hardware IDs for each LED.

Good luck with your replacement. I hope you'll get something other than CMO; may be a Toshiba or even better a Samsung LED :D

    Ah ****- that's a shame.

So is it the samsung that is the best panel then? Will try and get them to put a note on then!

It's a personal choice, but to me the order is Samsung > Toshiba > CMO

Compared to Toshiba, Samsung is brighter; however, the blue tones are more like purplish by default settings. The way I look at it is that you can adjust the colors using multiple methods, but you cant make a screen brighter than it is :D

    It's like we're chatting here pumauk :)

Here is the information you need:

CX057 is the "general" code for the LED LCD. It doesn't specify which brand...

The part code for the Samsung is TM107
The part code for the Toshiba is RP774

Once the screen is received and installed, the hardware IDs under device manager for each screen:
    Samsung - SEC5441
    Toshiba - LCD2306
    CheMei - CMO...

    Good luck!

I think it's all luck with what screen you get. I requested the Toshiba and got the CMO twice. And now this time, they sent the CCFL backlit screen instead of the LED. Good luck!

hmmm, yep- just phoned Dell tonight, alway thought XPS support was based in canada (or at least it used to be).... now it seems to be in india cause the guy didnt have a clue about anything.

He didnt understand when I said Dell supply different makes of panels... just kept banging on about one being led and the other ccfl. In the end I gave up and will just see what they bring to replace mine with! :(

    Good luck with the replacement.

My advice would be to open the replacement's box first before the tech takes your computer apart. One time I was sent a CCFL LCD instead of LED LCD. Unfortunately, this became obvious AFTER he disassembled the screen.

Happened to me as well. Luckily I looked at the part number on my service order and saw that it was different from my previous replacements, and called the tech before he came here.
