    Hi,

Sleep mode on the M1330 reduces the capacity of the 9-cell battery to about 60% after 2-3 hours. I shut down all programs before putting the laptop in sleep mode.

Is this normal for the M1330? My older Dell laptop could sleep without killing the battery.

    Hi photognj,

How does the battery perform when the laptop is shut down (or hibernating, it's the same regarding battery)? For example, how much battery is lost overnight? You should expect between 0% and 5% of charge lost overnight. If you have more than that, there is probably a leak in your battery.

As for losing 40% of charge in 2 or 3 hours, especially on a high-capacity battery, that is definitely NOT normal, for any laptop.

Yeah, lot of things are "definitely NOT normal" with the M1330. Atleast I know my palms will be blazingly hot in the dead of winter thanks to the GPU heat issue.

BTW, the 9-cell battery I purchased recently only lasts 1.5-2 hours with moderate Photoshop use(basic image editing: curves, color correction).

The old Latitude was rock solid and battery life was in the 4-hour range..

That's really bad. You should definitely contact Dell and ask for a replacement battery (I'm assuming the computer is still under warranty).

The XPS is Dell's "business" line, so they really want to satisfy their customers. Keep that in mind when you talk to them, be polite but firm in your request for either a replacement or a refund. I've heard people here saying that's the best approach when calling.
