    Folks,

    I'm having problems every time I start up my laptop regarding the touch pad settings for the touch pad speed (I haven't checked if the issue affects the other settings).

    Basically I try to have it set to the highest level but a few seconds after I log in the screen goes black for second and then the slowest courser speed takes affect. This didn't happen when I first got the laptop and it's getting kind of annoying now. Any help would be appreciated.

    Which version of Windows are you using (indicate 32/64 bit)?

    Which touchpad (Synaptics or ALPS)?

    What driver is installed?

    Indicate any other info that you think might be useful, like programs/drivers that you recently installed/uninstalled. More info, the better.

    If you have an external mouse from Dell or Logitech, the Logitech SetPoint drivers do this (reset the Windows pointer speed to default at every reboot). You can eliminate this behaviour by removing the KHALMNPR.EXE startup process from HKEY_LOCAL_SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run. It might be listed under the name "Logitech Hardware Abstraction Layer" or "Kernel and Hardware Abstraction Layer". It is safe to delete this key; the Logitech SetPoint software will still run normally without it.

    Thank you, even six months later this post proved helpful to me.

    Another way that I found easier is to:

    in windows vista
    hit the start button at the button left;
    in the search box at the bottom left type in "msconfig"
    hit enter
    go to startup tools and uncheck the KHALMNPR.EXE box
    reboot

    it works for me, thanks

    I'm having the same problem--the touchpad cursor speed resets to default (slowest) every time I turn off the computer (dell XPS M1330). But I'm not using Vista: my operating system is WIndows XP 2002; my touchpad is Synaptics. I think the mouse is a dell (but I never use it). Any thoughts?
