Anyone who's had theirs for a couple weeks, has your "XPS" lettering on the lid peeled off? I ordered mine, and within two days "XPS" had peeled off. I ordered an exchange, and it happened again. Is this a common problem or something?

My P fell off and I've seen a number of posts with others stating their letters had fallen off. It seems the only solution at the moment is for Dell to have a tech come and replace the whole lid. Hopefully they'll get on the ball and just make sets of letters and logos so we can order and replace them ourselves. They seem to be simple peel and stick items.

At least it happened to me on a system that has been returned and when I get the 4th, and hopefully final, replacement I know I need to be careful about placing it in the sleeve. I found my lost P stuck in the lining of the sleeve.

You can have them send a tech to replace the lid? I thought the only way was to do a full exchange...

Same thing happened to me, they wanted to replace the whole lid for me. Luckily, while on the phone and on hold, I found the missing "P" and stuck it back on myself, as it still had some adhesive stickiness to it. I think while my M1330 was still a tad warm from use, I placed it in the padded pouch in the Timbuk2 bag. I think that warmness made the adhesive come lose and have the "P" come off. It hasn't happened since, I now place my M1330 with the XPS letters up and facing me so they'll get some more air. I didn't want anybody opening up my machine just to replace the letters.

cliegal, you're 100% right,t hey should just send us extra letters, we do not need anybody coming and doing so much work just to replace a letter!

same thing happened to me as well... called tech support and they insisted on sending a replacement lid and have a tech to replace as opposed to just those stickers. i've spent time explaining that it does not need a whole replacement but just the sticker would suffice. despite the rep reassuring me that these tech guys are trained, i dont really want to have someone tear apart a perfectly fine notebook (other than the surface cosmetic issue) as this might just end up more of a problem. dont trouble trouble untill trouble troubles you.

well done Dell, thats how you waste money.

it hapend to me also, i noticed that it fell down when i put it in the included bag, the fibers of the cloth peeled it, i foundi inside the bag, and used spray glue to attachit again but it fell down again, now i dont know what glue to use. after that all the time that i store it in the bag, i put it so the XPS letters stay at the top.

Yeah, I wish they'd just send stickers. I can't even glue mine 'cause the pieces broke into smaller pieces in the bag...

I'm getting a lid replacement too, but if they screw up the entire laptop in ripping it open, they'd better be giving me a shiny new one, heh.

    The "S" came off mine.

I called Dell and they are sending a tech tomorrow, with a new lid.

I would argue that it is a good thing to make Dell send someone out - I paid for full coverage, and besides this is a quality control issue that they should be aware of and figure out how to fix. If they have to send out enough new lids, maybe they'll figure out how to make the letters stick. Why fix it yourself when you've paid that much for a new laptop? I was good at model airplanes and such, but never especially tidy (the clouded ****pit, and all that) - I don't want to be fooling around with superglue on a laptop I bought partially for its looks!

If you want a nice way of telling the rep to send someone out, try what I said:

"It's like buying a (Jaguar, Mercedes, Rolls Royce) and within a week the hood ornament falls off. It's not essential, but it's just not right."

Notice the circular DELL logo doesn't fall off, unless I'm mistaken. Why can't they just use the same method with the "XPS"?

had it replaced and now it looks as new again...

(well it was new to begin with. lol. my recommendation is to avoid placing the hot notebook into the nylon sleeve bag that came with it and remove it gently. also place the XPS side at the top of the bag instead of the other way round

Khull, I appreciate the tip; it really is pathetic that Dell can't keep their logo on a laptop. I mean, come on, was there a paint shortage that they couldn't paint the logo on?

At least if all the letters fell off, it would look better because the "XPS" is indented, and so uniformly recognizable. But to have letters fall off is really laughable and well below what one would expect from a company that has been marketing laptops for years. Just as they noticed little specs on the white paint, causing delays, you think nobody ever noticed the letters coming off and thought to change it? This is what R&D, Engineering, and, as a last resort, QC are supposed to take care of - not your customers' "beta tests".

This is avery good reccomendation for another reason: heat kills batteries. When you put your hot notebook right into its sleeve, you're just baking everything. Always let it cool down before it goes in the bag.

That's not always easy to do. Say you're at a meeting and you're have to catch a train - you can't wait 5 minutes for the laptop to cool down.

Truth is, though, that the Timbuk2 bag is quite roomy, and I would think that the XPS M1330 could vent quite nicely (when off) given the amount of space in there. That is, of course, without the sleeve.

I think the reason why they don't want to send additional stickers is that they don't want us sticking them on a some random case and selling it on Ebay as the new Dell XPS 9999. :p

I really like the way the XPS logos are on the lid of the m1210, you won't be having any problems with stickers falling off there.

Also, I really like the texture of the lid on the m1210, it feels alot smoother and nicer.

I posted this on the M1330 owners forum, but I think I might as well post it here as well. When I had contacted XPS support and they were setting up the order to send the replacement back panel, they asked me what color back panel I had. I wonder if it's possible to order the other colors the M1330 comes in, red or white, and install it yourself?

I think some of the other parts are related to the color, but I imagine it would work...I'd leave it as is, personally, unless Dell explicitly agrees to replace the cover with a different color.

some people have their preferences - i personally like black because of the illusion that it makes the notebook even smaller. (white will have the opposite effect of creating space). not sure about red tho :)

I caught my E when cleaning the lid on my red 1330 and it lifted and bent.

Aieeee! I pushed it back down and it seems to have stuck (fingers crossed).

The red lids really show fingerprints. Need to remember to give the letters a wide berth when I clean them off.

Have gone back to using my Acer 800. I don't think that's Dell's fault to be honest. Combination of Vista and the small screen - I got the 1330 for visiting clients as it's lighter and just haven't been out that often recently. Never mind ...Its day will come.

Heh! Talk about dumb quality issues... The letters came right of my Acer keyboard at one point. Call me Mr. Acid fingers! A colleague borrowed it for a presentation and couldn't use the machine at all (I know what the blank keys are so doesn't bother me). Have replaced it now and that machine is the great system it always was again.

    I just got a brand new m1330 on 11/27

I dont know exactly how your stickers/lid is but mine is white and the SPX logo are beveled alot and the stickers are really slim and are sunk in the case pretty far, seems like it would be hard for the stickers to come off.

like i said i dont know if they used to be thicker stickers or what, but i have not had this issue yet.

Could dell be using a new higher quality superglue? :O

Hmm we have a lot in common.. I got Acer to replace the keyboard on my 803 LCI on warranty as all of the keys just disappeared.. finally the power connector broke and I botched the attempt to re solder one...

Therefore I'm now an M1330 user...

I love it though... still getting used to the smaller screen

I'm surprised that dell is willing to shell out so much money just to replace the XPS logo on these laptops. I wonder how much they pay their contracted technicians for the visit.

Part of X fell off so I ended up taking all the letter off. Now I don't have to worry about it.
