I have successfully booted from a 2gb flash drive many times. I am using the A12 bios as well.
Is the HDD formatted using fat32 ?

I'm trying to boot several difficult variations of Linux- i.e. fedora, ubuntu.

Don't you mean the usb pen not the HDD? The usb stick is formatted as FAT32 but the HD - which shouldn't affect this problem is NTFS.

I have never tried booting off a usb hard disk before. I have always used pen drives, and all of them were formatted using fat32.
