Well I have the same problem again. I was usign the PC normally and then it turn off the display, still the computer is still running like normal (I know because sounds). I try to see it from different angles, it appear like is on, like when you have the computer on and the background is all black. The problem gets worse that last time. It go okay for a week without problems and today make this again. I shutdown the computer, restart it again and It not show anything. I restarted it 3 times and the same thing. I just wait like 5-6hours and check again and the display works like normal. So I dont know how munch time I have to happen this again. I dont think that this is GPU problems (NO vertical lines, no crash, no weird colors) in a old thread people says to me that this can be that the LCD is damaged, so i will buy the HDMI cable and if this happend again I will connect the PC to a external monitor to see if the LCD scrren is the problem (I hope and not the GPU).
Maybe this can be a program? OS problem? a virus?

Bump, Help!!

Check that your laptop display cable is connected properly to your motherboard and to your screen. Also check that this cable is not damaged.
My guess is that your screen inverter is at fault but I could be wrong.
Next time when this happen check if there is nothing on the screen or if there is something but it is too dim to be seen. You can use a light torch to check this. If there is an image but it is too dim moving the torch closer to the screen will display it (well a bit). If this is the case then the inverter is 90% faulty. The remaining 6% are for a faulty display cable with a broken wire. The last 4% are something else.
Last, have you dusted off your laptop just in case? -
I only make the copper mod but this problems appear like 2 months ago. Only appears like 1 time at week. recently. I am worried because i use the laptop a lot.
-
how i can check the cables?
-
Now check for burn outs on cables or wear n tear pay attention at points where cable is routed near hinges and make sure plugs are home into their sockets.
If you need manual on how to open up the laptop go to Dell downloadS for M1330 XPS...>Manuals> service manual -
hi,
I got similar problem. The laptop can run normally (windows boot normally) but we did not see any thing one the LCD except the LED back light. When I try to connect to external LCD, I got no signal.
I can connect to my laptop from other computer by using Livemesh, and it run normally.
Anyone can help me?
Thks -
ohhh, GPU?!?
-
-
ohh and how wecan repair that? buy a new LCD? Im thinking to buy a WLED
-
-
Really???
-
-
well I can prevent the problem presing ALT + Ctrl + Delete as fast as you can, if you wait it doesnt work. Im curios, I dont know what happening is very confuse.
-
However, if you're able to see writing on the screen with no backlight, then it's the LCD. -
I can see the backlight but I cant see the LCD.
If the GPU fails the games can continue running??? because i was playing Rise of nations and puff the screen goes off, still I can hear the game until I press Alt Ctrl Del to have the screen back (Like the 3 times that I make that) but finnaly nothings happend, so I restart it but dont work. So officially i can say that the LCD die. I will get those cables to check external LCD. I hope that works and I buy a new LCD from ebay. I also read that it have an inverter. it also can be the cause???
Is very weird, because I never have this type of problems and the problem is radomly, it can hapend 2-3 times in a day and then have a week or two without the problem. -
Don't buy any parts yet. You haven't narrowed it down. You need to buy an hdmi cable, wait till your laptop does it again, and then see if it will work with an external monitor.
If it works with an external monitor, it's the lcd or inverter.
If it doesn't work with an external monitor, it's the gpu/motherboard.
What is sounds like to me is that your computer is heating up and some part of your gpu is expanding with the heat, causing a connection not to work. When you leave it alone for 5 or 6 hours it cools off and contracts, reconnecting the short somehow. -
that is weird, cause I made the coppermod and never gets the temps that I get before and it happends not matter if gaming or not. Still is possible.
Well, now Im using another PC because the LCD not works.
I think the HDMI will work, if not, I have serious problem. -
well, I check today with a VGA cable to my PC monitor. The monitor works, so it not is the GPU. It is weird because I was checking that and the screen in the laptop get on again.
-

1. Front bezel
2. Back cover
3. LED backlight
4. Cam???
5. LCD screen
Cables??? what more? -
Well I chat with a technician of Dell, the conversion cost $473 to switch to WLED. If this help anyone
-
My friends what you think about buying a used wled LCD display? Rounding the $200 bucks. It haves all the superior parts with cables. I think that it is a take out the old and put the new process.
-
Bump! help! I will open the PC today and check for the cables and connectors. The seller say this to me:
see. You say the backlight works on the LCD....sounds like it is a problem with your the Nvidia chip and not the LCD. You do not always get lines on external monitors when the LCD is going out so it is hard to tell. I suggest running a video stress test on the external monitor to see if anything fails. Get Furmark it's free and run the torture test with extreme burning mode at the resolution of your monitor for about 30 minutes.
I do not want you to buy the wrong thing just to send it back.
I will do this, I dont like the name of extreme burning the GPU???? -
It just puts a load on your GPU. Do it and post back.

What the ..... The LCD works again today.... Maybe it die again after a couple of hours.
-
I tried shut down/start up cicle on the LCD with a external monitor and Fn+F8 and the LCD works again. So it need to be the switch that turn off and turn on the LCD. Im not a PC technician I dont know if that use a switch or the processor or whatever but is something that turn on/off the LCD

in this case the computer's warranty has ended, expired on August 25, 2009, when
warranty expires so does support by chat, phone or mail, if you want you can help out
warranty but is worth approximately 16 U.S. dollars,, would like to proceed?
IM like WTH???? They never say that before -
Well I speak today with another technician, she help me without asking money (because really was a small question). I ask if they have the reed switch but she say that they dont have this part because they dont make this PC anymore. I ask then where this part is located and 10 min. After she says that the part is in the LCD. So I gonna to buy a new LCD or maybe a used top part of the PC.
I hope this helps anyone. -
Well I get yesterday the new display part (all the display part of the PC) is used and is wled instead of old CCFL. Still the same problem, it doesnt work. Still I can use the PC attached to external monitor. I will go today to a PC store that have a tech there. hopefully he can fix my PC.
-
what the... I just change back to the LCD pressing Fn+F8 ans the lcd works again. I just think that it only will be on for few mins but 1 hour later and still working. Waiting to it get dead to go to the tech lol
-
I have exact this problem when I installed the Wled screen
YouTube - M1330 Problem
As you know that not happend with CCFL.
now I worry it is the GPU, still the wled is working normal for 2 hours.
is strange because I never have this issue in external monitor.
-
well I went to the PC shop and repair and the technician use it, nothing bad happend, all works as usual. I will wait until the problem appears again. The only thing that I made was change back to the original GPU driver. This can be the cause?
M1330 display problem (maybe not the GPU)
