    Hi,

I had a big problem with palmrest heat on the M1330 with Nvidia 8400GS.

I set fans to kick in at 50 degrees for CPU & GPU on my M1330 with automatic temperature control set using I8kfan. The fan are running constantly. What is the optimal setting for the M1330? I am afraid I might be overworking the fans as they are keeping the temp stable at 50-52 degrees.

Is it OK to have the fans running continuously on the M1330?

Any advice would be appreciated. I am just glad my laptop isn't burning my left wrist.

50-52 is a stable temperature AFAIK, and you definitely don't need full fan power at that temp. Not sure exactly how the M1330 runs heat-wise, though. Read the guide about undervolting your CPU if you haven't already. People report temperature drops of up to 12 degrees in the CPU after undervolting.

The GPU produces more heat than your CPU. Some people lower the memory/core speed in this regard if you don't game. I don't think you have to under volt your CPU since it already has speedstep or whatever its called to save power and subsequently generates less heat.

Even with SpeedStep the processor still uses more battery life than it needs to. Intel has established a CPU voltage that is safe for all processors in the line, rather than testing and discovering ideal voltages for each processor. Because of this, less powerful processors (as the Core 2 Duo Penryn's are in comparison to Core 2 Quads or Extremes) can be undervolted to reduce heat and increase battery life.

The main issue with the m1330 is that there is insufficient cooling for the GPU. Subsequently over time, it will burn out and a replacement mobo will be needed. (Thats if there is no official fix)
No doubt undervolting will also help reduce heat but the CPU on average runs at much lower temp than the GPU so the focus should be on the GPU.

Btw, I'm told the GPU temp on I8kfan needs calibration and is showing 10C lower than the actual value reported on RivaTuner.

Try underclocking the GPU then? That is, if you aren't gaming.

How do you undervolt the GPU? Do you set the system to "Powersaver" mode to slow down CPU & GPU. I looked for Nvidia Powermizer but couldn't find it. Is it built in? Also looked for some GPU control software by programmer called "Treblin". Thanks.

Try following this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTSdX6KiGaU tutorial but reversing things for underclock rather than overclock. I think there's a guide on the forums here too.

PS: You're not going to undervolt your GPU, you want to underclock it.

I saw a guide on here but on the Lenovo or HP forum on undervolting. Do a search and see if it come up

Dont undervolt... just make the m1330 copper mod!
