Hello there,
I have a small problem with my XPS. When I push the button trying to eject the CD (even when there is no CD inside), system freezes for about ~3 seconds. Is there a solution for this ?
Thank you all in advance ! Cheers!
-
-
Does the entire system freeze for 3 seconds, or does the slot load drive just not respond for 3 seconds?
-
the entire system freezes
-
Yea, this happens to me too. What BIOS version do you guys have? I have A05, and under the A06 change log, I think it says something about the DVD drive eject button. But I don't want to upgrade to A06 because of the poorer battery life issues...
-
I have the A06 BIOS and to answer bgbop my entire system freezes. -
Yep, same here (entire system freezes, video / audio and mouse) . Bios : A06. But not a big deal....
-
Well, there goes that idea. So I wonder if this happens to people's M1530's and those slot load drives or if it is restricted to only the M1330's? Anybody with a M1530 out there care to comment?
-
Does DELL support know about this m1330 issue ?
-
Yes, I have this issue too. I have the A06 Bios on the A04 rev motherboard. But to be honest with you, I don't recall if it happened when I had the older A01 rev motherboard with A05 bios.
-
Does anyone with the new A07 BIOS have this issue? Also, any M1530 owners have this issue?
-
Hope this helps everyone. -
-
You will get which ever drive they have at the time so you could still end up with Matsh ita.. drive
-
-
-
Keep us informed! -
WELL...i have consulted with the xps technician and came to know that it is the problem with the slot-load drive and not with BIOS ,tomorrow i will be getting my replacement for the drive and will update if its true.
I currently have the Mat****a slot load drive. -
I have the A07 bios, but not sure which MoBo but it is a Ma****sua.. or whatever and it freezes when ejecting.

WorkinProgress Notebook Evangelist
My first m1330 (A06 bios) didn't have this issue but my A07 replacement does.
Both have whine as well. why??!?!?!(rhetorical question) -
How long have you had your notebook. Jane
-
hey...
an Xps Tech engg. is goin to replace the Drive for me.
I am not sure if he is going to give the GSA drive or the Matshi*ta drive.
That wil have to wait and see.The part will arrive tommorrow in my country and the engineer would come thereafter to replace it.
P.S.I dont think all the XPS with a Matshi*ta have the problem,it is the other way round , that is , only the Mashi*ta drives are liable to have the problem ,if at all any XPS has this Ejecting-Freezing problem!... -
i have the a07 bios and the mat****a drive, also have the freeze on ejecting of cd
-
-
-
No the Replacement didnot work.
The replaced drive was also matsh*ita, as it looked similar to the old one.
Will update after the reply comes from dell tech support. They are not working on sat. -
I have noticed that the problem is also persistent when in BIOS.
i tried to scroll through the options, and when i press the Eject button, the system freezes.
So the possible problem must be
a) a poor I/O interface between the Motherboard and the Dvd Drive. ; or
b) Matsh*ta Sucks...
I shall let you know of the update on monday when i get a reply from dell. -
Also What pissed me off ..was
why does the Dell tech support have to be mechanical.???
If i say the problem is D...they start troubleshooting right frm A,B,C, and then approach D.This kills a lot of time... -
Oh man that's too bad. Thanks for the update though and I hope you can work it out this time
-
just force em to send u an lg drive
-
ya he is right!..the problem is with Matshi*ta...so just replace it with another..drive
Thats the solution!... -
is the lg loud aswell
-
Yeah if you do a search in yahoo lets say you see Mac units reknown for have major problems with this drive Matshi ta tin cans
and switch to LG. & Nec.
What I must point out when they are working its a bloody good reader/burner but once again the noise factor... -
This happens to me too.
And when I'm playing music through iTunes in the background of my laptop and then eject a cd the music gets stuck for like 2 seconds so it's like a messed up reverb -
yeah i have this problem too, but it's not really a big deal because i don't use cds very much but ugh.
-
ok well i just got my lg replacemnt and upgarded my bios to a06 but i still have the problem
-

I've been doing some research about this issue since I discovered your discussion a couple of weeks ago.
What's happening is the drive's hardware is sending a command to the system's firmware, and the OS stutters for a moment while it's happening.
At this point, the only valid workaround I've found is to eject the CD with the OS controls in situations where is matters, i.e. you're listenint to music, etc. In those situations, simply right-clisk on the CD in the Computer window and choose eject. You shouldn't see the stutter then.

but this is SAD!...such glitches must not be present. For, Dell being a reputed laptop manufacturer , this is very unprofessional
-
Sure, it can be a little annoying. But I don’t see this as a problem worth wasting any time over, certainly nothing to get a part replacement (drive, motherboard or whatever). C’mon, how many times do you guys eject CDs or DVDs in a day? , and a mere 3 second delay is really that much of a problem
It takes longer than that just to put away the ejected CD, which means you'll be anyway distracted for several seconds
.
-
I wish I could be more helpful here. Thre is a valid workaround at this time, and future BIOS revs *may* address the issue. Unfortunately, this problem doesn't cause system breakdown, so it's seen as a "small fire" by our developers.
I'll keep digging around, and when I hear anything, I'll make sure it gets shouted from the rooftops. -
I just noticed this on my m1330 as well.
I just did a clean install of Vista too from flameko's thread. Runs MUCH faster, and doing some tweaks as well
I can't remember if it paused when I first got it from Dell, but regardless I hardly ever use CD's or DVD's anyways, lol -
I bet during design and testing (there wasn't any actual testing, this i'm sure of) the m1330's code name was something like Plague.
-
After flashing BIOS to version A07 the problem with CD-ROM eject button still appears .. ;(

We've seen complaints such as these, and our engineering department is currently working on a fix for this particular issue.
I will post more to this thread once more information is available. I just wanted you to know that you aren't crazy: it really is happening and we are definitely aware of this.

Under certain circumstances the system totally freeze and i need to power it off by holding the power button.
I have experienced this 5 times over the last few days under different circumstances.
Copying files from usb to hdd is one of them and it's pretty annoying.... -
I don't know about you guys but I notice when I press it with no cd inside it doesn't lag no more. I am using A09
-
Still feeling the lag with A09 BIOS update.
-
While you are taking a look at this topic.. whats the deal with the spazzy touchpads?
