Ive had my m1330 for about 16 months now.
Had issues with it during that period mostly on heating up and slowness.
Ive had the motherboard replaced once around the 10 month period.

Now the laptop is still heating up and its really slow/lagging especially when im watching videos(DivX, DVDs etc). Sometimes i would even get the BSOD.

Is there a way to fix this, could this be a software issue?

All this usually/only occurs when the charger is connected. I usually run my laptop on AC.

Which BIOS version do you have? There was at least one over the summer that improved the thermal controls.

You have to restart to check it. You could just install the latest version if you don't think you have it.

Ok that is the latest version. I would suggest you use I8kfangui to control your fans so that you can lower the temperature.

Why is the CPU load so high? Even when the laptop is on idle it is on 99-100% !!!!!!

virus, malware, adware, keytracker or some other bugged service or program. Try to find out who's the culprit and uninstall/reinstall the program if it's legit.

In Vista, Ctrl+Shift+Esc will bring up a list of current running application. Just filter the list to show which one is using CPU cycles.

As for the issue at hand, I'd suggest you call Dell and get the motherboard replaced again, and again and again and again, until Dell has FINALLY fixed the problems of the M1330 re: overheating and underclocking.

They have extended support for the faulty video card for an additional year. Otherwise they would charge you A LOT.

Try sending them an email from their Dell Contact Technical Support page giving your problem and they should get back to you..

You actually had a good experience, most seem to last about six months. Mine lasted 8. I also thought it was a Vista problem, wasting about 3 weeks and 40 hours.

Waiting for my new mobo to be installed tomorrow. Not sure how long that will last, but enough to take me out of warranty.

I will just have to keep it running cool until I can afford to buy another brand.

Will be curious to see what temps are recommended for you.

I had this problem and it turned out to be my firewall, Zone Alarm, which gets bogged down with lots of torrent downloads after a while.

Switching to another firewall fixed my problem (Norton Internet Security 2009).
