So Dell is starting to offer 6gb and 8gb memory configurations. Is this a result of Dell beginning to use a new motherboard in the M1330 or are all m1330s able to do this?

I've heard that your bios may affect how much RAM is recognized. Is this true and if so, which bios' support 8gb? Thanks.

First, let me say finally. This was kind of stupid on Dell's part. The chipset supports up to 8GB already, why impose limits?

It is true that the BIOS can control how much memory is seen. Before they have started a few users had reported being able to use 6GB, but 8GB didn't work. The latest version is the A14 for M1330 so I would make sure you have that before you try going with 8GB. I am not sure if they have a more recent version for these built with 6-8GB and have not released it on their support site yet though.

Bios A13 supported up to 8gb ram, a14 took that away.

Thanks own3d. I am not sure why Dell would decrease functionality with an update, but that's Dell for you they aren't in the business of making sense. One would wonder that they have a future update planned that re-introduces the ability for the latest ones sold.
