Lately my laptop would freeze and I could see faint white lines only at the top of my screen. (lines do not go all the way down) This has happened twice in a day. Ctrl Alt Del doesn't work so I have to power down the system and it runs normal after that.

I'm really afraid its the dreaded vertical lines issues. I had my mobo + GPU replaced a year ago, still under CC warranty but its such a pain.

    Argh

    Hey there! :)

Sounds like you do need to call in make use of your CC Warranty once again! I know you feel it's a pain...but it will take care of the problems you are having with your 1330. ;)

How much longer do you have your CC warranty for?

    Cin...

temporarily, until it goes south again!

My third motherboard just died one month after Dell's extended warranty. I had nothing but the runaround from Dell. I chose to install an Intel integrated motherboard because I've had it will Dell. If eventually your warranty expires and you still want to keep the M1330, might be worth replacing the motherboard for, what I hope, is something more reliable without that damn Nvidia chip.

I don't think you can request to have the Intel integrated graphics. It never works out.

Also my m1330 lasted this long because I don't even play games on it. I swear I'm gonna ditch it once my warranty expires.

Yeah, Dell and the XPS m1330 has turned into one long soap opera thanks to those faulty mobos... you might complain enough and see if they will work some kind of trade-in exchange for a different model. I know it sucks, but they are going to keep shipping you a faulty part, and you might as well just save yourself the runaround now...

Yeah, if you're still under warranty, you'll be banging your head against a wall trying to get Dell to substitute that Nvidia version for the Intel integrated motherboard. That's why I chose to take matters into my own hands and get someone to do an intel motherboard replacement for me. Rather than look at a hunk of metal in the closet, I'm in the process of giving it one last chance. Like I've said before in another thread, I like the notebook. I like the performance to weight ratio, I like the LED screen, the fact that it still has an optical drive in it while being relatively light and I like how it looks. If it wasn't for the GPU issue, the M1330 overall would be a half way decent traveling notebook, but fair is fair and three failed motherboards and the fact that Dell has now washed its hands of the problem is completely unacceptable.

Like you, never played games on it and kept it in powersaver mode. It was also on a Zalman NC1000 cooler. Didn't make a bit of difference, still died on me. I will be looking elsewhere other than Dell when I gather enough money together for a new notebook.

Tech just came and replaced the mobo took only 35 mins. Forgot to ask him to put some arctic silver paste. He didn't even clean off the old residue.

    Running version A14 bios.

The laptop is gonna creak like an old granny when its been taken apart so many times.

Let's hope you get more than six months out of this one :(

Any reason why you didn't go up to the A15 bios?

Do you need a different heatsink/fan to accomodate the Intel integrated graphics chip?

I searched on ebay and I found this:

You can see that theres only the CPU socket and the Intel graphics chip?

For the other setup, theres CPU, North Bridge and Nvidia chip.

Yeah, this is the heatsink fan being used for the Intel Integrated version. It's not where I purchased mine from, but it shows that there is a difference between versions.
