I've been having a bit of a battle with dell uk recently.

I had a m1330 ordered on the 11th June. Received it a few days later and found it was scratched around the top bezel. Dell sent me a replacement notebook (which only arrived yesterday).... and that's got more build quality issues than I can shake a stick at so decided that will be going back.

Firstly, this won't be a problem will it if I just turn round and say I would rather keep my original? Or alternatively can I still get a refund- as it was surely their fault I have had it over a month?

2nd, I've switched the front bezels over (which they surely won't be able to tell) so that's the scratch problem fixed. However now i've noticed that the new notebook has a toshiba screen whereas my original (that im keeping at the moment) has a chei mei screen. To me the toshiba looks better (and from what i've read is generally considered the better of the two).

    Now what do I do-

    1) Ask dell to build me yet another with a toshiba/samsung screen-but got a feeling its never going to be quite right and doubt they would even do that??

    2) Swap the screens over and then just return the rather frankenstein spare one, hoping dell don't realise and think that's wrong to do.

    3) Keep my near perfect ccmo screened original (with the replaced bezel- which fixes the original problem I complained about), and live with the poorer screen?

I guess the best thing would be to ask Dell's permision to make the swap, or even ask for their staff to come over and do it. I do see why they wouldn't agree to this, it's cheaper for them vs. building a new one.

I'm sure you could ask for a completly new also, but there are no guarantees that the third one will be perfect. Dell does that allow you to choose which parts they.

I doubt dell would agree to swapping the screens over- and I cannot be bothered trying to explain that to their India call centre.

I could swap the screens myself I believe but would they check that? Has anyone swapped their screens on here?

Full-back, I don't understand what your 2nd paragraph is going on about?!

Sorry, wrote it in such a hurry during work, looks terrible actually =) I meant you can ask for a new lappy, but you can't be sure that the new one is perfect either. You can't choose which company's components they use for assembling.

Those LCD parts will be listed and identifiable on your original invoice and on their records of the replacement machine that was built and despatched to you for stock taking/replenishment back at the factory.

Do not attempt to swap the LCD's yourself. You could try asking them to do it for you though.

How about just the front plastic bezel that clips into the lcd frame? Surely they won't care if that is swapped? Does that even have id numbers on?

That's just a generic moulding for the line, and whilst it was a bit cheeky to do so, it was the bit you wanted fixing originally so I don't see an issue in transplanting that bit between the notebooks yourself.

The real hardware though is not quite so interchangable without garnering attention. So just ask if the screens can be swapped and failing that stick with what's working for you now in the original notebook. Your first line of enquiry has been remedied after all. :)

Thanks L.Rawlins- Was a lil' cheeky but it just seems daft to send me a new notebook when all I wanted was a front bezel... :p

Mind you now seeing this other screen- my chi mei one looks very grainy compared to the toshiba one.
