I bought a Dell XPS M1330 over a year ago and it came preloaded with Vista Home Premium. Since I want to keep the batteries in good condition I run the laptop with no battery connected and AC plugged in whenever it sits on my desk at home.

However, in Windows 7 it seems that Windows wants to put the laptop to sleep after 10-15 minutes if I do this. Since I have various USB devices plugged in, especially external storage, this is a problem. It seems to go away if I run with the battery plugged in.

Is this normal? Am I missing some Dell driver for Windows 7?

Best thing to do is check your power settings for Mains supply change settings to Never.

It already is. Doesn't seem to make a difference if the battery's not also plugged in.

    I allan,

I have noticed a similar issue with W7 x64 on the M1330 but I keep the battery in mine usually (as you noted in your second post). My power settings are also set to "Never" when the power cord is connected. I guess this is a problem with W7.....or could it be Quickset, which also has battery monitoring functions.

Where are those functions? I ran QuickSet on Vista and didn't have this problem there.
