It was fine last week but the connector seemed to start cutting out until it stopped charging altogether. I thought it was the charger cable so i ordered a replacement. I plugged that in but it doesn't charge either, the charger is a genuine dell psu.

In the bios battery health is normal but the ac adapter is not detected when plugged in. I took the bottom cover off and can't see any obvious issues with the charger socket.

It's out of warranty and Dell will let me extend it but before i hand over my money i wondered if there's anything i can try in the meantime as i'm a bit skint.

The warranty extension is £130 and it would cost as much to replace the mobo looking at the prices on ebay so this seems like the best option to have it covered against any future issues given these lappies are prone to issues.

Anything i can try before extending the warranty?

    Cheers!

Have you tried a known good Dell battery? If both are known good, then sounds like your motherboard.

The battery i'm using is the replacement that came with it. I just tried the old battery but it's the same. The mobo was replaced last year as well, this is why i'm thinking the warranty is the best option.

    Cheers!
