I have a year old babied XPS M1330 with Nvdia 8400GS videocard.
Its been sitting on a desk connected to 2 Dell 23'' (S2309W) screens for months. One connected via HDMI and other using VGA.
The VGA is producing vertical lines flashing. As if there is noise!, i've swapped the VGA and HDMI cable and problem is produced on other screen.
I've also tried another VGA cable. Also tried changing the refresh rate from 60 to 59. Still nothing.
I have windows 7. 7200 installed.
Any ideas?

the gpu might be dead... are the lines showing on the main screen, or do you see other artifacts?
anything like pics from this thread?

My laptop screen is perfect. The HDMI output is perfect its the VGA output.
If i use paint and put a black picture its clean with no noise. But if its a video, or a website or anything else... you see it. its very annoying.
here's a video.

try another cable or monitor?
maybe a bent pin or something -
I tried another cable, and another monitor.
I have TWO 23'' LCDs. I switched cables between both and same result.
I got another VGA cable and tried it. same thing. -
Anyone Help?
-
you will need to have your motherboard replaced
-
How do I deal with technical support?

if you are under warranty, just go to dell online chat and explain the problem
"vertical lines out using VGA out... problem persists after using a different LCD, and different VGA wire"
either way, the motherboard will be replaced since the VGA port is soldered onto the mobo... if it's a GPU problem, the mobo replacement also replaces the GPU, so ya.. -
Done
Thank god I upgraded complete care till 2011. -
Do they keep the same CPU?
I like my T7250! it supports Intel Virtualization Technology (VT). -
-
Mobo replaced. Laptop works like a charm

looks like you didn't set it up right, if this's the case... or both monitors and cables are bad... any other device to test VGA output to those monitors?
get a ubuntu live cd(or usb flash drive) and boot and try mirroring -
The monitors are Dell S2309W both have DVI and VGA input.
I have an HDMI to DVI adapter.
Left Screen HDMI and right VGA.
I switched inputs and its always the same on the VGA side. Problem was not there before, and there arent any settings on the screen.
I've also tried a different VGA cable. Same thing...
VGA output is messed up.
Just tried monitor VGA input from another source (Dell Inspiron6000) its perfect. -
ahhh this is going to give me a seizure... I am usto having two screens to look at my stocks, and cnbc on one screen. The other have my regular stuff... i cant now...
-
I just moved the screens and laptop to a different room.... i was told it might be some source of interferance in the room... i am desperatly trying anything...

unplugged the power cable.... no more flicker!!!
W T F!!! -
I FIXED IT!!!! Well not fixed but flickering is ALMOST gone.
If you want it perfect, unplug the A/C power !
Changed the A/C adapter from the XPS Little 65W PA-21 To the Monster 65W PA-12 Adapter.
Funny thing is, i have another PA-21 Adapter at work. So i never even considered it as a possiblity.Attached Files:

interesting... the power and VGA cables should be well shielded and have ferrorite cores to filter out noise...
-
I wish my camera can show the noise but the difference is night and day.
to reduce the "snow" noise. you can enable CVT reduced blank.
