There have been lots of issues with putting the laptop to sleep, from touchpad to the function keys... and I for one, usually just power it off, and very rarely use the sleep function, because of this, and because of what I have read around... though I still haven't come across a sure fix to any of these....

I have tried using sleep once when I got the laptop, just to test and all keys were working fine, rather I got a blue screen... LOL! never tried it since then :p

    Fn + Esc

That key combo works on my M1530. I do not have Quick Set installed.

Just try to hibernate, instead of sleep. Haven't really experienced any problems, besides some touchpad lag.
