    Hello!

Quick question. I'm looking to buy a XPS M1530 but the one I found that's in my price range and is pretty well loaded has a Core 2 Duo T8300 2.4Ghz processor. I would have liked to get a 2.5 Ghz. Would the lower speed make a significant difference to overall performance? My computer would mainly be used for movie viewing, photo editing, InDesign work and word processing among normal internet browsing and stuff. It's got 4GB Ram and a 3 MB L2 cache.

    Any help would be appreciated!!

    Thanks,

    teknikad

T8300 is the best ''bang for buck'' The T9300 cost alot more and only has marginal improvements over T8300. Stick with the T8300.

The extra 100mhz and L2 cache on the T9300 wont make a world of a difference

Extensive tests on the Mac has shown the difference between the T8300 and T9300 at less than 5%.
Most users won't notice a speed difference till between 15-20%.

Plus isn't the T9300 noticeably hotter than the T8300?

My T9300 idles at 30C and peaks at 56C, although this is undervolted, so even if he chose a T9300 heat is a non issue.

    I just upgraded from a T7250 to a T9300. I don't see any noticeable performance increase. I would order a T7250.

This Anandtech article is about the new Centrino 2 platform. What interesting is that the author said that Santa Rosa Penryn CPU has more current leakage than the Santa Rosa Merom CPU. Just look at the comparison table. I’m not an expert, so I don’t whether it will affect the battery life or not.

Why would the T9300 run noticeably hotter??? Where are you getting this?

@jb1007: You don't notice a performance increase because it hasn't arrived for you to try.

You don't notice a cooler, longer lasting on battery laptop?

Also if you are not noticing a difference, then you are not doing CPU intensive applications.

I went from a T7250 to a T8300, and it is a world of difference.

Never mind going from T8300 to T9300. I hardly notice any difference from a T7300 to a T9300. IMHO these pricey CPU upgrades they all charge for the higher end CPUs is by far the worse bang for your bucks, VERY little extra bang for MANY more bucks!

I wouldn't even spend the $100 on the T7250. I would stick with the base T5750.
