Hi Guys,
I'm having a problem with a Firewire Audio card when recording from a MIDI input. It works okay for a few seconds, then i get the dreaded BSOD - I haven't had time to look through the dump file yet, but the thread ks.sys is mentioned.
I've had a look about, and I think the problem is something to do with the ASIO4All driver I installed (and subsequently uninstalled) OR how the IRQs are set up in windows.
I'll post more details later, I need to run to work now - I just wondered if anyone else had experiences with this problem.
Ta,
Joe

If you have a proper firewire audio card why are you using Asio4all? It's essentially just a wrapper for WDM drivers when you dont have manufacturer supplied ASIO driver. Any decent audio card should come with it's own ASIO driver.

I wanted to see if ASIO4All helped with my latency at all. I'd just heard good things about it and thought I'd give it a bash - clearly wish I hadn't now
I have a new 500Gb drive arriving today anyway, gonna reinstall Windows and see if the problem goes. -
The best latency will be granted by the manufacturers ASIO driver unless they are rubbish at writing drivers
ASIO4All is really for people who want ASIO functionality but dont have a proper ASIO driver provided and like I say is just a wrapper for the WDM driver.
Try seeing if you get the BSOD using the proper ASIO driver. -
I uninstalled ASIO4All and switched back to the manufacturer's driver, but still get the BSOD. As soon as this drive arrives today, I'm going back to XP for my recording setup!

So XP is installed now and the majority of the hardware is disabled. I still get the BSOD when WiFi & Bluetooth is turned on, so i'm guessing that was causing it in the first place - not that it makes much difference, I have no networking stuff enabled in XP anyway.
