    Hi all!

I have seen some posts on this, most seemingly negative, about the effectiveness of laptop coolers. I had a couple of models in mind. Can anyone testify to any of these, or post a link to their cooler? I am just looking for reliability and maximum effectiveness, cost is of no importance to me. here are the models i was looking at :

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16834997340

It is expensive, but it seems to work for 15 inch. anyone own it?

    or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834998051

but it seems that it will not fit

recently i read a bad post about a zalman nc2000, so i dunno. Anyone have any links to really effective cooling pads?

Edit: My post was all messy. Redoing it, ha-ha.

I'd recommend you take a look at the NBR Cooling Central, before you decide a laptop cooler is the way to go for you.

When picking a laptop cooler (if you decide this is the best course of action for you), you will want to keep in mind the locations of the vents/fans in your laptop. This way you can "allign" them with that of the notebook cooler.

I don't know many of the notebook cooler brands, so I couldn't inform you on the exact one for you. I've mostly read good things bout the Zalman 1000s/2000s, but they aren't always the best choice for all laptops.

well i personally have the nzxt cryo lx for my m1530. it also comes in brushed alum & black (matches very well). big pro for me was the big size. u can put just about any laptop under 17" on top of it and get great airflow cuz there's simply so much surface room. its made of solid alum. very sturdy and well built. only down side would be that its not very transportable.

the zalman seems to work fine but its smaller than the actually laptop so it'll be "floating"

just check out some of the reviews in the accessories section and u'll find a few diff cooler reviews. =)

Plenty of temperatures and pictures...use the search function next time. :) There are 20+ threads about the m1530 cooling...

You may also wish to consider this or this. They are extraction fans. You tighten them around your vent and plug the power-end into a USB port on your laptop. Which makes it VERY portable (it's like walking around with a slightly over-sized usb memory stick). They will EXTRACT the hot air from your machine.

I've never had one of the above devices, nor do I know anyone who has used them, either. It's another possibility compared to a large notebook cooler, however. Keep in mind, it only works with certain vent types. Explained on their website very easily.

I bought a Zalman NC-2000 for my M1530. It makes very little difference in operating temps -- only a few degrees. This is with the 9 cell battery. At average ambient temp, it seems to eliminate the cycling of the computer's fan which normally kicks in at a GPU temp of 69 degrees and turns off at 59 degrees. Instead, the computer stays at around 62-65 degrees at idle rather than varying between 59 and 69 degrees. During 3D gaming, the computer's fan turns on when the temp exceeds 69 degrees, and the GPU temp is a few degrees cooler with the Zalman. The Zalman does seem to cool the hard drive a bit since it's located directly over the Zalman vents. The 9 cell battery raises the computer away from the back of the cooler, and the air intake for the computer's fan is not directly over the vents in the cooler. So there may not be much as much cool air being directed to the fan intake. I'm going to try the 6 cell battery to see if that makes it better or worse.

The NC-2000 is well built. I think it was worth the money, even with only a modest improvement in operating temps, but others may disagree.

I bought an NZXT for my M1710, but I've been using it on my 1720. The fan in the 1720 developed an obnoxious whining noise, and the NZXT keeps the 1720 cool enough that the fan in the 1720 never comes on. The NZXT moves a lot more air than the Zalman NC-2000. Even on the lowest setting it cools me along with the laptop. The edges of the NZXT are sharp and you do not want it in your lap. It has rubber feet to keep it from gouging your table, but they don't do anything for your lap. The edges of the Zalman have been smoothed. If you decide on an NZXT, check the prices at Amazon -- currently $5 less than Newegg and free shipping.

nc2000 is popular..but i dont understand how its affective if it does not cool the main intake near the battery.

nzxt or enermax aeolus seem to be a better choice.

thats another thing i've been wonderin myself. why ppl go with the zalman units for the m1530's. correct me if i'm wrong, but doesn't the zalman nc1000/2000 have to fans mounted in the back and just push air up/forward thru a "tunnel/channel"?

the cryo lx is like a big muscle car. pure raw (cooling) horsepower.

and someone mentioned that the cryo lx also kept his lap cool. my buddy said the same thing the first time usin it. he told me "damn, it made my legs cold."
