I thought I'd share with other forum readers my lastest Dell saga,
Decided to order one of the base configuration m1530's that were $799,and added the stackable 10% off to make it $719.
My expectations were not high,in fact I already had some ideas how this transaction would differ from ordering 3 other M1530's and watching the process for those machines unfold, from manufacturing the laptops, then shipping to the USA typically took 4-5 days.
This m1530 however was already built and left from Tennessee,I picked it up from DHL hub today, there was no way to access the type of LCD Panel using other programs or checking the display properties device instance id.
my 1st m1530 was the same in this regard and I was able to bring up a detailed list of the parts used by entering the service code on Dell's support site. Actually this method worked on all 3 1530's that I had purchased to this point. But,since this new 1530 was already assembled/configured and shipped within the USA when I entered the service code it had no data for the individual parts used in this particular build.
In other words, they went out of their way to not disclose the info,I knew when I placed the order, for that price I was going to get an absolute Sh*t LCD,and even though I can't verify it,it looks just as grainy as the 1st 1530 I returned that had the Samsung WXGA screen.
I remembered others claiming they tried to order this config, but were denied due to the sales quota being met.
Heres my take(speculation of course) Dell sets up a special offer on xxx amount of 1530's which have either been cancelled because the people checked which LCD panel was included in the build before it shipped and cancelled order,and/or these are all returns for this or maybe other reasons.I thought it was illegal to sell refurbs without labeling them as such, maybe they aren't but its very suspect.
Moral of the story, even when you think your getting a killer deal,in reality ,your probably not.![]()

Pretty much, Dell doesn't resell refurbs as new computers....it's a pretty harsh accusation that isn't true.

What do you think is happening to all the cancelled orders that have already entered the country... -
Ok, I will leave you to continue to "speculate" since you obviously aren't going to be persuaded.
-
It is illegal to sell refurbs as new thats why Dell isn't
-
I was suppose to get a 'new' replacement, but it arrived in 3 days, and two of them were weekends which the shipping company doesn't work. Also my earlier order shipped in two weeks which was expected. They shipped me a refurb for the replacement, it was absolutely disturbing. Oh and the replacement was absolutely crap, had more problems than my original one.

but everyone who posts that, unless they are indeed in the Dell organization and would divulge truths, are also JUST speculating. -

Its also worth pointing out this was not an exchange, but a NEW sale.

DELL has got rid of those samsung lcd's however you think since they are phasing them out if you ordered a pre-built 1530 around the time they ditch that lcd panel that you wont get it? they probably have a lot in the warehouse and they are going to ditch that inventory first. most people wouldnt even notice.
Dell isint selling refurbs as new stop trying to start stupid rumors. -

If Dell did try to pull that, someone is going to cry wolf and sue the company for millions. -
Just for the record, my first XPS was in such piss poor shape that either it was a refurb, or the person who put it together came to work high that day. I mean, it had the wrong decals, horrible screen (not builder's fault), bent up peices, uneven feet. I was like, "Wow, so this is the Dell XPS experience?". Dell made a pretty bad first impression, but they don't care and neither do I. If I can't get a decent laptop on my third try, that's too many and I'm going else where.

Is it a refurb if it was never delivered to the customer?
Anyway, my 1530 came in pretty good condition except that the "Dell" logo in the hinge and the hinge was visibly scuffed and the scratches were pretty deep like if you dragged it against gravel. -
Honestly, what are the chances of any self respecting company selling refurbs as new systems?
Dell is trying to gain the PC market back, and they aren't going to do anything stupid like that to save themselves a few bucks.
Dell wouldn't risk losing tons of customers to save a few bucks. -
Someone just close this thread it has nothing to do with laptops.
It is an argument about buisness practices. -
Those are pretty bad accusations but I would like to point out that Dell's build quality is really ****ing terrible. Uneven hinges, s***** screen, etc etc.

Anyone actually affiliated with Dell feel free to chime in

It could be that there are batches of brand new default configurations pre-built and shipped to the US in order to fill orders quickly.
