I have a feeling that this problem has already been discussed, but I just couldn't find such a thread...

I am looking to buy a 2 x 2GB Dual Channel Kit for my Dell XPS M1530 and I'm not sure what frequencies are supported by the laptop. I see that my current RAM is DDR-667, but since the CPU FSB is 800 Mhz, could I also buy DDR-800 RAM. Would that work as it's intended or would it be forced to work at 667 MHz?

    Thank you.

If you buy 800mhz ram it would just downclock to 667mhz

That's what I was afraid of. I'll just stick to DDR-667 then. Thank you for your answer.

As its on a Santa Rosa platform, the chipset on the M1530 only supports DDR2 PC5300 (667mhz) RAM.

You can read it on intels site...

    hope this helps,
