So I ordered my M1530 about a week and a half ago and somehow got it on Monday. Things have been going pretty well but recently I've been having a weird problem. I use Firefox and this problem has occurred in both Firefox 2 and Firefox 3.

What happens is I'll browse around the internet for a while and then randomly I'll click on a link to go to another page and it just won't go. It might look like it's trying to load but nothing happens. So I close Firefox and attempt to restart it but it says that it is still running. Now normally going into the Task Manager and ending the Firefox.exe process would work but it just won't end. I hit End Process or End Process Tree a bunch of times and nothing works.

After all this I can get on with Internet Explorer. But then after a while the same problem happens. Pages stop opening and the process won't end and I'm forced to restart my computer to get back online. Does anyone have any clue what's going on?

    Strange indeed?
Clear your internet cache/temporary files, and try again?

Those wouldn't explain why you can't end the process though

You can create some problems by installing both Firefox 2 and Firefox 3, depending in how each was installed.

But, even if installed properly, it can happen. Here is an entry that discusses it further.

It is almost always a profile issue, and with both FF2 and FF3 installed on your machine, this makes that extremely likely.

Well, I looked at that page and tried some of the things it recommended but stuff like deleting a .lock file can't be done if the process won't end because it will still be in use by FF. I just uninstalled FF and deleted all the folders it put on my HD so we'll see if it keeps on giving me problems.

To close this up, I had the Dell support people help me out and they flashed my BIOS. I don't think that actually did anything though because it just flashed to the same version I already had installed. I then uninstalled my antivirus and firewall software (Avast and Zone Alarm) and I haven't encountered the problem since. Thanks for trying to help.
