First of all Merry Christmas to all!

Secondly, I got my 1530 in the mail last night and have to say, im very impressed. A few things I noticed:

The Fan and hard disc are both very quite, and I could not see it disturbing anyone in a quite environment.

The heat from the HD being under your left palm is noticeable, but nothing of any real concern.

The disc drive is cool and not as loud as some people have complained about.

The fingerprint reader is well, dumb, ive tried dry fingers, moist fingers, slow swipes, fast swipes, to no avail.

Speakers are not very nice, my old IBM T30 had better speakers.

The 9 cell battery is not very comfortable on the lap.

Now keep in mind these are only a few things about the computer, and is just my personal opinion. Others including yourself may find many of the points ive just made, rubbish.

I do have a question though, would it be a good idea to reformat my HD and get rid of the "bloatware"? Will it increase performance?

I can't answer your question, but I have to agree, I cannot get the finger print reader to work right. I get about 1 successful print out of 10.

I got mine last night while I was at work (so technically hubby got it). I'm lovin mine.... have had no probs with the finger print reader... I went through the whole process and watched th pointers on using it.

I can't get the dang remote workin... but other than that I love it!!! Crimson red is awsome.

If anyone wants some pics taken let me know. I can start a post.

I'd love to see pics. You should start the "Post pics of your new m1530 post" or something along those lines. Would be cool to see them all start poping up in one place.

Don't worry about the FPR tutorial. I couldn't get any swipes to match. I just skipped it and registered my print anyway and it works 99 times out of 100.

Try it and let me know if that works for you :)

I got mine Xmas Eve morning and its been fantastic. I did the clean install, and installed SP 1 RC. The fingerprint reader was difficult at first because I wasn't doing it correctly. Just make sure you press down with a little force and do it slowly.

    Finger print reader...
this is how it works,,, you see that the scanner is deeper than the surface of the laptop so what you need to do is make your finger go all the way down and touch that little glass sacnner ... you must feel it with your finger...
when I first got my XPS 1530 I had the same problem,... tried everything... but the way I told you will work... just press your finger down on the little scanner.... let me know..
