Well, every day that I turn my lappy on since I got it I notice that I have 1-2 gigs of space disappear.

The first time I turned it on I had like205 gigs, and today I have 179. I haven't downloaded much music (maybe 30 songs), and I haven't loaded any huge programs (only MS office). What is causing this?

Also, I already changed the amount of space for system restore to use down to 8 gigs.

    system restore?

try 'Disk Cleanup'... installations like MS Office leave temp files....

turn off Hibernation if u dont use it, or reduce pagefile if u have >3GB ram

Have you tried running a complete av / asw scan?? just to be sure there isn't anything suspicious?

And try disk cleanup.. also you might want to try using CCleaner / EasyCleaner.. but be a bit careful with EasyCleaner and chose unnecessary > select the drive, probably C: > find > delete and make sure to empty recycle bin after this because easycleaner dumps everything in the recycle bin

And just a thought >> this thread is better off in Windows forum

When you do a disc cleanup click on the tab marked "More options" and cleanup the system restore and shadow copies. I've found that this sometimes will cleanup upwards of 15gigs.

Yes, that cleans up all but the most recent restore point...

But I didn't mention about that because the OP said he already reduced the shadow copy / restore point storage size to 8GB but he was 'losing' more than that... anyway, but yeah... for the OP, you might wanna try what Perryl suggested too..

Fonduekid, I'm not talking about the system restore partition, I'm talking about his C: drive.

Perryl >> me too is talking about the C: drive... and I meant the shadow copy storage size.. btw, what exactly is the 'system restore' partition?? I haven't heard about it.. I just know of the 'dell recovery partition' if thats what you mean..

anyways, when you do disk clean up on and use more options to delete all but the most recent restore point, it deletes the restore points from the shadow copy allocated size... which apparently is the volume shadow storage or whatever... anyways.... I am confused now... :D :D :D

Congrats, Glad to be of help. I usually run one of those once a week, right after I back-up my info to an external HD. JFYI, the disk space used in your dell back-up has nothing to do with the space that can be used on your C: drive for restore.
