I have a M1530 but would like to use the irda port on the front of the device for transfering data from my polar heart rate watch. Their software uses the IrDA spec. Within Vista the IrDA port doesn't exisit (device manager), however i know it works because i can control MCE with the travel remote.

Has anyone got any ideas on how to this to work, drivers etc.

    Please help

    Thank you

    Pete

It's a consumer IR receiver only. It just receives IR signals from the remote. It's not a two way street and cannot be used for data transfer.

Thank you. Thats not the answer i wanted to hear, but its the answer i suspected.

So there is not way to make it into one? I don't want to have to carry around a separate IrDA device when the laptop has one in it.

I believe that there is a difference in the firmware in the two devices and you will not be able to "upgrade" your current IR setup to the type that you need.

The problem is a hardware one - the IR unit only has a receiver, it has no ability to send IR signals out. It's like having a soundcard with only a converter on the way in - it would have no way of outputting an analogue signal for you to hear and there's no way around it other than buying an external IR unit with the correct hardware.
