I got my M1530 a couple of weeks ago and its been great so far but noticed that there was a keyboard bulge and the control strip did not look quite right. I talked to a rep and he pointed to the service manual to troubleshoot it. Took it apart and found that an incorrect screw (way too long) was forced in and caused damage to the keyboard. See pics below. Just wondering if this might be the cause on other M1530's??

I got Dell to send me a replacement keyboard and correct screw after sending them pictures.

Here is the screw which should be flush

whoa, thats prety cool! i probably had that on one of my previous defective m1530s, but it was barely noticeable by me. it seemed more like an illusion rather than actually sticking out.

It was pretty noticeable on mine. I just replaced the keyboard and screw and now everything fits together perfectly.

i don't have a bulge but on the bottom right side the keyboard moves allot more than other corners and makes a bit more noise. Any easy fix for that or should i just open it up to see ?

You could open it up and see. It may be easier to see if the keyboard is twisted or anything else that may be causing it. The keyboard slots in at the bottom and 2 screws hold it in at the top.

Here are the instructions to remove it: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/xpsM1530/en/SM/keyboard.htm#wp1179994

I think I have it too. It seems more like an illusion as chucko said but an uncomfortable illusion.

i have the illusion too, its been buggin me since i got the m1530 so i took mine apart to check it out, and that screw was missing completely. So I guess mine just looks buldged since there was no screw there at all...

I tried to take mine apart but failed miserably, didn't dare to pull the buttons thing completely out as it was putting a little fight and I didn't want to break it.

How do you remove the keyboard without removing the buttons plate?

You have to remove the buttons plate. Just make sure you've followed the service manual and unscrewed the right screws including the ones that are underneath what would be the battery.

The key is to make sure you bend that monitor back as far as you can until you can't. Then it will make it easier to pull out and have less of a fight. Good luck.

I'm having issues getting the Control Center out. I've removed the hinge covers, and the three screws, and I've read the guide, but the thing is only budging at the ends. Is the control center supposed to bring the speakers out with it too, or no?

Edit: Nevermind, posting apparently did the trick. It's out now, and yes, the speakers came with.

I have a bulge by the F10 F11 keys ( M1330) so I might take it apart in a minute. If I can manage to that is
