I have seen the low rez and i have the high rez ...depending on your eyesight lol it may take some getting used to...I do love it and game at that res easily on HL2 or CS...I never was able to see one until I bought this ....so it was a gamble ..but no regrets ...it's a personal preference chk them out 1st if you can...there are sample pics here but it is better to see at the local store if possible as the high rez is pretty small..but you can also adjust your icons etc to larger sizes to compensate...

Just tried HL2:Lost Coast last night on 1440 res, turned EVERYTHING on and up to max. Stress test reports that it was running at 48.something FPS, which is just lovely. It was bloody rapid to my eyes anyway.

This is on stock drivers too. Was a touch juddery.

Downloaded Bioshock demo but it was black screening. Reading the forums, I need to slap in the laptop2go drivers. Won't bother with this since I'm going to do a debloat soon.

    I’m curious how you got these types of frame rates? I myself play wow (1280x800) on my XPS 1530 (Intel T7250 2.00GHz, 2GB RAM, 160GB HDD 7200rpm, 8600GT 256MB DDR3, Vista x86).

WOW has a FPS indicator (it is indicated when you mouse over the latency indicator). Granted it’s not as accurate as fraps as it only goes up to 60fps max. But my general FPS according to this bar ranges from 30-45 FPS (max out gfx settings) and I can feel it getting clunky from time to time.

The only thing I’ve changed on my laptop from default dell settings is to set the power management to high performance and I play with the charger connected. CPU-Z tells me my CPU is clocked at 1.1 GHz and it goes up to 2 GHz when I put load on it. Disabling the Intel speed step in the bios does not change this and I thought it was supposed to. Them I also only using the supplied dell drivers for my 8600GT

Am I missing something here? Is there specific gfx/pc settings to which needs to be changed from default dell settings to unlock better performance like for example the power management?

He must've been confused with your signature. It says "WSXGA+" which would make him think you have a 1680 x 1050 display.

    1440 x 900 is WXGA+

    Anyway nice thread. :)

Bioshock seems happy running on High at 1440 res at the moment, latest drivers.
Stalker can't quite make it to "maximum" settings on 1440, so have dumped it down to "high". Difference = barely.

I now have Stalker with all sliders (barring AF/AA) to maximum, no grass shadows at 1440 res.

This is thanks to the wonderful Float32 mod that increases STALKER performance. Roll on Float32 for Crysis!

1440 x 900 resolution + COMPLETELY MAXED settings = ~30fps in oblivion when overclocked. This is probably even higher than max settings because I installed many mods and texture fixes which sharpen and increase the resolution of game objects.

I don't want to rush anyone to overclock but if done right the temps hardly change (still running at 72C max load) and there is still room to go even further.

I am running 600/800 and people have gone up to 710/950 and I don't need anymore as I get all the fps I want.

Just some thoughts for the people not satisfied with the performance. Also remember the bloatedness of your comp is a big factor.

See these articles for tweaking your comp for maximum performance:
    http://forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?t=3829 (XP)
    http://www.tweakguides.com/ (game specific tweaks)
    http://www.tweakguides.com/System.html (OS + graphix card/software tweaks)

there is a lot out there. Invest the time and it will pay off, but do it with caution and take it slow (don't throw in optimizations all at once). Not everyone's opinion/advice is equal or is valuable. Be carefull who you listen to...

with an m1530 2.6GHz T7800 and 4GB ram on windows vista, maximum aero settings. How come everyone can get soo much higher specs? I am using the dell drivers, but people get higher scores out of the box.... :/

A question to all you M1530 gamers what are acceptable heat temps for the following. My lil bro will be gaming hardcore at times more then 5hrs at a time. (he's a MMO freak ha). What is the max temp Celcius the GPU CPU and HDD can handle as well?
    CPU
    GPU
    HDD
Only reason why i ask im considering a m1530 for my lil bro who wants this laptop to game and study on for college. He wants it to be portable and "sexy lookin for the eyes"
    Games He will be playing
    Crysis
    Final Fantasy xi Online
    Unreal Tournament 3
    Half life 2 Orange box

Also any down clocking issues? or the notebook behaving wierd when not plugged in and gaming on the battery instead?

Sorry for the question guys but he really wants the m1530 any other things you guys could suggest to get with the m1530?

Im buying another 1530 today from the outlet, now they fixed the touch pad issue and i installed my free penryni love mine.
I dont know another laptop that does everything this does and still gives me like 3.5 hours battery life. One word - awesome

On another note i thought id try my first game on thsi thing last night and picked crysis , it looked not too good , please tell me how to get this looking half ok, i mean what settings are you all using
By the way i updated my video drivers to 174.82 last night

    Thanks in advance

WOAH... am I reading this correct? I am running my system with 3gig RAM (which is 1 gig more than the review system here) and on the following settings:

    1440x900
    4xAA 4xAF
    Vsync on
    everything on high

on my settings I get 60fps solid.... but even with Vsync off I never get 300fps. Is AA and AF enabled here on the test system? also i dont see option here for 1400x900, just 1440x900...... anyone else getting 300fps with vsync off? if so what settings?

Well how is it possible you're getting 30-50 fps in Bioshock on this settings ?

    My spec are:
    T8300 (2,4ghz), 3gb of ram, no o/c'ed 8600gt, vista 64 + 175.12 drivers.

I'm getting 4590 3dmarks @ 1280x800 but when I played Bioshock demo on settings same as yours - it's playable only if nothing happen on the screen, if some flames or enemies show up - fps drop and game is jumpy. It even hard to aim ! ;/

I have fresh install of system. Maybe it is demo's fault ?

I had to register just to lay claim that these tests are bull****.

World of Warcraft: 60-250 FPS on max settings? Where do you get this stuff?

I have a M1530 that is only a month old. The board has been replaced due to clock battery failure twice. They also had to replace the AC adapter since it was lightly electrocuting users thanks to the tin area where you rest your palms.

As far as the gaming performance...get outta town. In WoW you can expect nothing more than 20FPS on the LOWEST settings. Screenshot below.

My m1530 specs: core duo 2.40ghz, 4bg ram

Neverwinter Nights 2 plays with MAX settings at 1440x900 resoluton very smoothly and very much playable. (Guessing 60+ frames per second) There is no lag whatsoever.

As for WoW, I can also max it out too, it looks much better than that screenshot thats up there, VERY fast, VERY smooth. 250 it most definitely not crazy. Most likely its because your trying to max it out with a WUXGA resolution 1920x1200. Turn down your resolution a bit and you should be able to max it out easily. It plays max on my 1440x900. Looks much better than that screenshot you've got up there.

I admit I have no experience with the 8600mGT, but I think the benchmarks and settings by the person in the first post of this thread are very bias and unrealistic; I very much doubt that you could max out The Witcher at 1280x800, 2AA and 16AF with good framerates.

With Crysis though, why is it that the life bar is jagged like that with medium shaders? That's exactly what it looks like with low shaders, and if you are really playing with those settings, why not take a better screenshot that shows off the graphics (like the shadows)? Also 27fps in that Crysis screenshot with whatever those settings really are, there is no way you would get playable fps through the game.

I have just ordered a dell XPS and it is on its way here. The 4th Of July deal I got is with a 1920x1200 resolution and am worried that it may ruin games that I wish to play. Is lowering the resolution very bad on the quality of the game?

Apparently its not as sharp at non-natives. Not particularly fussy though, been happy playing my games below my 1440 res at 1280 res.

Needed the 1440 for stuff like Ableton so happy with the tradeoff.

hey guys.. i too hve been planning to get XPS M1530 but am very confused about the resolution.. i want a 1440*900 coz it will look good and i will have lots of room to work with but i will not be able to play too many games in tht resolution and besides i am used to 1024*768 (my previous desktop resolution) so as for the wide screen,1280*800 is well enuf for me..
what actually i want to ask is tht even after getting 1440*900 if i play games in 1280*800 will it look bad.. and also about the movies.. i usually download 720p blueray rips (movie resolution is ~1280*720) so how will 1440*900 look in tht..or should i get 1280*800

    thanks..

I recommend you get the 1440x900, Everything should look very nice, as for DVD resolution, i play DVDs on this one and it has 1920x1200 and it looks awsome :D

Also, see if you can get the LED one, much better for weight, battery consumption and brightness

I was looking at the little tool bar tip I have for WOW and i realised I was only getting 20-30 fps with settings maxed out. How is this possible when I have 4gigs of ram, t8300 cpu and a 256mb 8600m? Something's wrong with my settings but anyone have any clue what?

Im using all standard xps drivers and I haven't overclocked anything. My settings are 1440x900 and graphics are maxed. Although I know graphics are maxed, it's a 4 year old game. I shouldn't be getting this

No its not your computer. I play WOW on 1440x900, low-medium settings to get consistent 60fps. I think people were exaggerating the performance of this game in WOW. I don't think this game ever ran at 60fps on high with a resolution of 1440x900. I also think WOTLK is more taxing on the computer. I know that they added a couple of graphical improvements to the game. Whenever a deathknight rolls by my fps drops.

Hey.. I'm playing NFS Undercover these days. Several times the screen jus freezes for a fraction of a second, kind of a lag before the next frame. This at the lowest possible settings (which are the default settings) - 640x480 and all effects turned off... what am I doing wrong? what all fixes can i perform?

    Thanks :)

    New Dell XPS M1530
    T9300 (2.5 Ghz) Processor
    4 Gigs Ram
    8600 GT 256MB GDDR3 Ram
    500 GB 5400 RPM HDD

So I go it, formatted, installed Vista sp1 and latest drivers...

Installed World of Warcraft, maxed out all settings, cranked AA and AF to 8x in Nvidia Control Panel....... and I can maintain an average of 90-130 FPS and the game is so smooth and gorgeous!

Simply amazing. This is the best notebook that I have ever touched in my life!

Does anyone else get similar results with this notebook or did I just get really lucky?

    Let me know!

    Thanks!

Dell XPS M1530 is the most powerful laptop i have ever seen. But there is one problem with this laptop and that's the heat issue. Suddenly i am facing lagging issues with this laptop. I have called Dell support guys to fix my problem and lets see what happens. Other than heat issue i am quite satisfied with this laptop.
