Ok guys, i am back again.
i am hitting temps in the high 90's!
this is while i am playing gta4
i have the 185.20 drivers for my card.
i also have the 9 cell batt. on so it is propped up a little bit for max air flow.
my house temp is at 64F.
here is the fun pic

what should i do. i still am under warrenty, do you think it could be hardware issue that is causing such high heat?
Crysis and far cry and Fallout 3 ran with out problems. r*
Please Help!
Thanks

since you're still under warranty, it doesnt hurt to call dell and ask them to replace your motherboard =) faulty video card problem again, I've heard about this alot hehe
-
Umm... your CPU should definitely not be as hot as your GPU. Make sure your fans are clear and working. I'd send it in for repair at this rate.
That said, those temps are still well safe. There's no danger of immediate crash but in the long run, this is gna be very bad for your gpu. -
Try cleaning up your vents and fans first. If that doesn't help, better send it in for repairs.
-
Yeah, if its under warranty get it fixed. I had high temps (admittedly not as bad as yours) and changed my thermal paste for AS5 - right now my CPU is at 28C.
-
talked to dell. said they would replace the mb. when asked if i had anymore concerns i asked if i would be receiving faulty nvidia card. he said i would have the lastest technology. so i asked if i was going to get the newer gpu. he said dell and nvidia have worked out the issue and has fixed the hardware. i asked for a link to prove this and he could not supply me with one but reassured me that a12 fixed the issue.
hummmm. so nvidia remade an old card so dell could 'fix' this issue?
has anyone heard of this?
i can not believe that nvidia has remade old cards to fix the problem.
anyways i am still getting the new mobo so i am atleast a little happier.
they seemed to fix the trackpad jumping all over too. he had me change the scheme of the mouse from areo to none and i tried closing the lid and opening it and indeed it seems to respond faster.
also i asked if i could have the tech add some AS5 to the chipset and they said they would make a note of it. i am to supply the AS5 tho.
alright. -
rig. My 8400 with a thermalright ultra 120 using AS5 in a CM830 runs at 29C.
Quality thermal compound is a great thing but grease alone doesn't do miracles it also needs a great cooler and I'm not sure how good laptop coolers can be. -
in my experience after a mobo change, sometimes temps would still hit 75-85Cs during games or video playing. To mitigate this, i bought some NB cooler, those that make your laptop inclined and not fully flat in a table and also have a electric fan on its left side
.. can usually keep the temps under 65Cs on that...
-
just to note i had a 9 cell batt on so it was not flat on the table.
-
Just taken now. -
But this is not a GTA screenshot.
What particular 2.4GHz CPU? T8300 or T7700?
In case it's a T8300 you'd be required to change
CPU_0_TJMAX=10 5.0
in hwmonitorw.ini. Otherwise temps are reported 5°C to low. -
t7700 -
Companys like AW , Dell , Sony etc... need to step up.
When we pay 4000$ + for a laptop we should expect nothing but the best from them. When i see a post and they say that they had to open theyr own laptop to change thermal compound that is unacceptable, you just payed a premium price for what?
So some lazy worker put to much crappy quality thermal compound on your CPU?
They should all use good thermal compound on GPU and CPU and make sure the build quality is close to perfect for this type of machines and i am also sick and tired of all the bloatware this machines come preloaded with.
Enough is enough.
If i got out there and buy a 500 thousand $ Ferrari i will expect the best or else i am going to be extremely pissed off.
They better start to wake up or one day they are going to be left behind.
The only time i use this companys is when buying a laptop , since i build my own Desktops.
But if one day we will have acces to hardware in order to build our own laptops liek we do with desktop PC`s i really wonders for how long this compansy will be able to make money by simply relying on people that have no expertys in building a PC.
I just recently bought a Dell xps m1730 and i am very excited about it and i hope everything goes well. Only thing that scares me at the moment is that it was ordered on the 22 and on the 26 it was shipped , i hope i am getting a brand new machine and not a refurbished one.
Every major corporation out there wants you to believe that it is all about the custumer but in reality it is all about the $.
And if they are in the process of loosing two much $ they wont think twice about screwing you over.
I was just configuring a dell XPS 730X to see how much money it would cost. A fully loaded 730X with 3 year warranty after taxes it comes to almost 8000$.
That is a lot of money i could build 2 top of the line PC`s with that much money. From an investment like that i sure hope they have people that know how to apply thermal compound on a CPU and i would also be interested to know , if any one here owns a dell desktop , what CPU coolers they use and if all the hardware is top notch. -
Yeah, that was obviously not a GTA IV shot; It was just idling copying some files - just intended to show what difference it made change my paste over.
The issue with Dell's thermal paste is not the guy or girl that applies it on the assembly, its the actual low quality of it - it just dries out really quickly and becomes next to useless. -
@joeytav: Idle temps don't tell a lot for a couple of reasons: 1. the DTS sensors don't work well at low temps. They are not calibrated for those temps. 2. idle power consumption of most Core2 Duo cpus is kind of identical since they all go down to their lowest VID/FID and spend >90% (check with Vista's own diagnostic tools) in C3/C4 low power state. However you're right that high idle temps may indicate bad thermal compound.
It would have been interesting to know say the prime95 smallFFT 2-threads temps before and after exchanging the thermal paste.
@pyr0000: The T7700 is a really hot CPU and GTA is a very CPU demanding app. Dissipates more heat than say 45nm 2,5GHz T9500 parts and a lot more than T7500 parts. Depending on your CPU specific VID, your CPU might be just a hot one. The high chipset temps (APCI ...) are due to the CPU heating up the heatpipe and the PM965 chipset, which is connected to the same heatpipe. The temp sensor of the PM965 chipset has a accuracy of +/- 8°C. At least this is what I remember from the chipset documentation. That might explain why it even reports higher temps than the CPU.
Try undervolting. Next depending on your personal preference: Nontebook cooler or replacing the CPU thermal compound.
Your system works and it's hard to judge whether it's too hot and Dell is supposed to fix it. -
Yeah, T7700 is a really hot CPU
Try to undervolting it.
You can check my RMClock VID setting for your reference.
Mine is also T7700.
My max temp under heavy load is around 73 C (before was 85 C!!)
Btw, my ambient temperature is 30 CAttached Files:
