Hey guys, question about my track pad on my M1530. I have sometime when I will run my finger across the track pad but the cursor with not move. It will jitter a little bit but will do nothing else. Then after a couple seconds, and sometime a hit on the palm rest, it will work again. It has happened probably the whole time I have had the laptop( 7 months), and now it seems to be occurring more frequently. Also, for the whole time I have had the laptop, the track pad will not always register a tap on it as a click, it just sits there like I did nothing. I know that could be a setting, but I have messed with them the best I can and it has changed nothing. Do you think this could be a driver issue, I have updated the driver since I got the laptop, or could it be bad hardware that came with the laptop. I have a complete care warranty, so they would probably replace it no problem, and I am already going to have the motherboard replaced because of a broken clip on the Ethernet port. What do you guys think is the problem and what the best solution is, thanks.

    Hey there!

If you have Complete Care, and have messed with it by Tweaking it a bit in The Dell Touchpad settings, and latest drivers...I would go with having them fix this. As, you are already going to have your Motherboard replaced! :D

    Just a thought.

Thanks, that was my thinking. They shouldn't have any problem with replacing it right? Is it hard for them to replace it or not? And if I tell them that I have done all that stuff, will they still run me through a bunch of tests or just say ok and process the change?

UR welcome :D Oh no..they shouldn't have any prob's replacing at all. That is what your warranty is for. ;)

Just tell them it's basically inoperable and you updated the drivers on Dell's website, and went into the Dell Touchpad and did what you could with that.

Tell them, that it's just not working *to the standards that a touchpad should* ~ on your 1530. They may still have you run a few tests...but I would hope that this wouldn't be the case in your situation. ;)

Let me/us all know how it works out for you. :D

    Cin ;) :)

P.S. Yours is just about a year old now, right?

About just over a half a year. I received it at the end of may in 2008. I will let you guys know how it all goes. I am going to have them replace the motherboard and the touch pad at the same time, and maybe ask for a 64bit vista disc at the same time. And by the way, I still love my XPS, just trying to find a cheap 9 cell battery so that I can get some better battery life.

Mine is going to be 1 year old next week ;) :D Ahh the sweet memories! :D

Yes, let us know how it go's. You shouldn't have any prob's getting that 64 bit vista disc :)

You should check NBR's Marketplace and see if anyone is selling a 9 cell ;) Or put up a WTB for one! :D

Yes, I still think the 1530 rocks :D

I am getting the switch done today. He is going to replace the motherboard and the track pad, which apparently means the whole palm rest. Ill let you guys know how it all goes. Hopefully it does not take that long for him to do it.

The whole process went good. Took him about an hour. He put everything back together like it was before. I had a problem at first, but forgot that the wireless switch was now enables and it was switched off. But all is fine now. A nice new palm rest, no stickers. I love hearing the sound of the click when I put the ethernet cord in the port.
