Hello, sice the news about faulty 8xxx gpu's I have been hearing that Dell is offering 1 year extended warranty for gpu faults.

    Example:

    http://www.zdnet.co.uk/news/desktop...-extends-warranties-after-gpu-fault-39463022/

I have bought M1530 on 28th of April 2008, together with 1 year warranty. It expired on 28th of April 2009, however from what I am reading I qualify for 1 year extra GPU warranty, am I right?

But when I phoned Dell (it was when my AC adapter broke and needed replacement) on each occasion I asked about this extended warranty and they were always telling me that they never heard of it.

Am I being lied to? Or are they right? When I check the servicetag status of my laptop it says that warranty has expired and there is no extra warranty there (if there was it would apply till 29th of April 2010).

Please can someone explain it to me?

Your 1 year warranty on your entire lappy expired on 4/09...The Nvidia GPU warranty is extended for 1 entire year "outside" of your lappy's warranty expiration. So, that warranty runs from 4/09 thru 4/10.

Here is the information: NVIDIA GPU Update: Limited Warranty Enhancement Details

    Hope that helps!

Hey, thanks for your answer! I saw this post when I was browsing net for my answer however I do not know whether it applies to UK.

I am experiencing sudden shutdowns and sometimes white bars appear on my screen when I am gaming, therefore I try to use my laptop only for basic stuff - I do not want to end up with fried machine when my warranty does not cover it.

Do you think that dell representatives that I talked to tried to mislead me?

As far as I know, that Nvidia GPU Warranty is extended as it was a known issue. Mislead you/Misinformed.... :( I would try to get on Dell Chat or go thru here Dell UK Unresolved Issues.

I think going the Unresolved Issues would be your best bet..If that is what the Reps are telling you, and you are running so "close" to the warranty be near expiration. Peep's have usually had good luck going the Unresolved Issues route. :)

The reps probably didn't know to be honest, they seem to be left in the dark about a lot of things. But yes, the 1 year extended warranty definitely applies in the UK also. My M1330 availed of it last year when it had the motherboard replaced for the second time.

As Cin' said it's getting close to the extended warranty expiring also, so you'd want to have it approved fairly soon. I presume you've actually contacted technical support in relation to the issue you're experiencing with your GPU? (i.e. not just mentioned it in a phone call enquiring about something else)

Here is an extract from an e-mail I received. It may be of help to you.

^Excellent! For a second there i was worried; just won an m1330 on ebay! It's still under warranty but i was buying it somewhat on the basis that it would be covered under the extended warranty should the gpu fail after the current one runs out.

My motherboard was changed by them completely, but only once and then there were no overheating problems for a month or two, but then it started all over again. As it was past the normal warranty I did not contact them but now it seems that actually I still have a right for a properly working laptop.

I wouldn't mind motherboard exchange because I am used to my M1530, but I do not see them on the website - they stopped making them? Also I am a bit afraid that if they will send me a new motherboard it will fail again, past the warranty....

What would you do if you were me? The laptop is still functioning, but I can not do anything graphically intensive, will they help me in any way?

PS. I am reaching really high temperatures like 85 and more, I do not think it is normal (no overclocking whatsoever)
