    Hi everyone!

I'm looking to buy a M1530 LED WXGA+ screen (1440x900). I currently have the stock 1280x800 CCFL. I have some question that I'm hoping some of you would be able to answer:

Will the LED screen fit normally within the stock CCFL backing/bezel?

I'm looking at screen descriptions, for the LED's I don't see "inverters" listed as included but in some, though not all CCFL have it mentioned in the description, is this something that's no longer required? or is it built into the panel?

What is a good price for these panels? The panel I'm looking at is a Glossy 1440x900 LED screen for $205CAD with shipping and taxes included. Good price? bad? Is it possible to get it cheaper?

Concerning batterylife, I have a 9cell and am averaging of 3.5-4hrs of usage with wifi on and screen in one level just before full brightness on Power save mode. Will I see a very noticable increase in battery life? I keep hearing people spout "30%" are there any actual tests?

    I'd really appreciate anyones opinions!

    Thanks.

LED-backlit displays don't use inverters. I have no idea how easy it is to replace a CCFL display with one, though. The only replacement I've ever done was CCFL with another CCFL, inverter and everything.

I've replaced my CCFL with an LED. There are 2 small screwholes on the LED screen backs that hold the bottom 'inverter' in place, but my non-LED back didn't have those so its just sitting in there, no rattle and it fits perfect. The cord going under the keyboard to connect to the motherboard is different, but that usually comes attached to the LED screen so you're fine on that too.

Overall its an easy to upgrade screen and I'd reccomend getting the LED as I like it much better than the CCFL.

You didn't need to replace the lid or anything since the LED (AFAIK) is a bit thinner?

It may be thinner, but I compared both backs and they are exactly the same. The trim piece that goes around the front and snaps in is smaller for the LED's on the top, but it shoulnd't cause an issue if you don't have the smaller one.

only the m1330.. the LED(with a 0.3 mpix camera) is thinner than CCFL(2.0mpix camera)

for the m1530, both are same thickness (both have the 2.0mpix webcam that requires that thickness)

Thanks for the input guys, what about the price? Is that a good price? Can it be found cheaper? That includes taxes and shipping.

Is there a place to sell my old screen? it's perfect, no dead pixels or anything just want a higher res.

    Thanks

I guess the price I'm getting is pretty good considering that ebayer wants 25.99$USD shipping, and then there's taxes applicable to my province, the seller I'm looking at has shipping and taxes included for 204$CAD.

Thanks for the input. Trill you've got a PM.

I just got my LED screen, I haven't installed it yet. I'm looking at the back of the LED screen and I can see that there are no ribbons included, is that normal? Will I have to use my current ones that are on my CCFL screen? Are there any video tutorials on how to take everything apart? I have a vague idea as I seen a Dell tech do it once about 8 months ago.

    I'd really appreciate any help.

Does anyone know if I need anything more than just the screen to upgrade to an LED screen? I just got a bare screen with no ribbons or anything. Is everything I need already included in my current dell? Will I have any problems with my integrated webcam not working or not fitting with the LED screen? I don't really want to screw up anything during installation.

    Thanks.

You need a ribbon for the LED LCD Screen, it is not the same as the CCFL one. I've tried and looked and they are definitely different.

I mentioned this fact in my first post above where I said the cable under the keyboard was different.

No idea, you'd probably need to lookup the part number.

I found the part. Besides the data cable itself is there anything else I'll need?

Here's a pic of the back of my display

    I didn't get this: [IMG]

which I'm guessing is the inverter? Would the one already inside my laptop work for this screen or will I need a brand new one as well?

So the only thing I would need is the new LED data/power cable for the Monitor and I should be good to go?

Alright apparently I am still missing one part. I picked up the cable for the LED screen from Dell but I STILL need the power connector. Could someone in the kindness of their heart tell me what the heck the part number is for the LED power connector for the monitor is? I contacted Dell parts and every person I talked to was able to give me a price for a part as long as I had it's respective number but once I mentioned the power connector for the screen, the one that's specific for the LED screens they were completely lost and useless.

So, did you manage to install the LED screen succesfully? Did you need an extra part?
