    Hey everyone,

    I just upgraded to a Seagate Momentus ST9500420AS 500GB 7200.4rpm drive on my M1530 from a Western Digital Scorpio 250gb 5400rpm drive.

Before my laptop would be pretty hot and yet the fan wouldn't be on. Now the fan is constantly on and the laptop is just warm, not hot at all not like it was before. Is there a reason for this? Is there some sort of fix/solution? I'm currently running the A12 bios cause Dell told me that it'd keep my GFX card from screwing up.

    I'd appreciate any help

Yeah, I'm on A12 with a Western Digital 500gb 5400 RPM drive. That's how it came from the factory. My fan is always on as well, usually at a low speed unless I'm doing something intensive.

The constant fan is a side effect of the BIOS update. Dell in conjunction with NVIDIA implemented this change due to the issue of the shoddy manufacturing process NVIDIA used on the m1530 GPU (other models were also affected).

This was the main reason why there was such an uproar from the community - setting the fans to be on constantly while the unit was powered on was viewed as a band-aid fix and not a proper solution to the problem. Dell (nor any other manufacturer as far as I know) ever changed anything to fix this. There solution was to extend the warranty by 1 year.

Anyway - just wanted to throw that out there in case some of you posting in this thread are new owners and not aware of this. You can do a search or check google and find tons of info on this issue...
