Has anyone seen or know of a placeholder for the battery slot on the M1530? I know that keeping the battery in the system under constant AC power use is bad, but without the battery you have this big gaping hole in the back of the system. I've been doing some searching but can't seem to find anything. Any ideas?

I have never had any problems with leaving a battery in my system. but you could try buying a cheap battery on ebay and remove the cells and connector

The Studio XPS has a great 1080p screen but is a lot warmer than my M1530. Also the Studio XPS is a bit bigger but has some great options like and internal tv tuner, ESATA, DDR3 Memory and faster processors. I would still have my M1530 but the graphics card died after 10 months. and dell tried to give me a downgrade. The only reason i sent back the Studio XPS is for Graphics card upgrade.

If you leave your battery in while on AC, it ends up that your battery will no longer hold a charge. I tend to leave my battery in however out of pure laziness =-P Plus if I decide to switch from AC/Battery, there's no messing around with putting the battery in while the system is on.
