Hey everybody, well I just did a full clean install today to remove Ubuntu. I put vista 64 bit on and reinstalled all the system drivers.
I took the laptop upstairs to watch 1 episode of the simpsons(23 min long) and during the whole episode, the fan would go on for 2-3 seconds, turn off for 4 seconds, turn back on for 2-3 seconds. This is extremely annoying as my parents are sleeping, its quiet in the house and while watching the episode I can hear the fan turn on and off. Occasionally the fan will stay on the 5-8 seconds then turn off for 4 sec.
I love the unit otherwise but find this verry annoying. I've 'tweaked' vista to get it running quick, I'm set on Power Saver mode, LCD screen brightness low and just have IE open with the show playing.
I do believe I have Bios A12 installed also.
Any ideas if this is a fan issue? From what I can remember, this only happens on battery power itself. I understand the fan needing to cool the components, but this is just plain annoying IMO. I've used other laptops that run quieter then this.
thanks
bart

were you blocking the vents? download hwmonitor and check how high your temps are.
maybe you need to clean out the vents. -
At first I had the laptop on my legs in bed, then i put it on the wooden night stand where there is proper ventilation.
The laptop is new, just got it on Friday from dell.
Thanks, I'll download the program and check but I find this weird. I'll call dell today. -
i got a new t8300 1530
the fan noise is terrible as well.
27c cpu
53c gpu
fan cycles constantly even when idle, tried all bios a08 a09 a12, this pos is going back! -
What a bull company.
Honestly, WORST customer service ever.
After 1 hour, 35 min on the phone I finally got an agent that did 'something'. I spoke with so many india agents that:
a) can't speak english for
b) phone connection is horrible
c) don't listen properly
it's horrid. I cannot believe the crap you have to go through to return this unit.
I honestly think that once I get this returned, I wont even look at a dell due to their ty support. It sucks because this laptop is half decent besides this fan crap.
Now I have to wait 24-48 hours for somebody to call me to tell me how to get this returned to them.
for some reason, I doubt there will be a call...

This is how the M1530 sounds, especially when decoding video. Use headphones, applying artic silver, or a cooler. You can also try bios A08 as the temp to turn on the fan is higher.

Honestly, if this is how it is then I'm returning it and not even thinking about another one.
I turned on the laptop 15 min ago for the first time today, and within 2 min in windows it starts again with the fan on and fan off.
I was using my girlfriends Sony Vaio today at her apartment while I was calling Dell and the fan on her laptop was running constantly, but at a very low RPM that you could barely even notice it.
Thank you for letting me rant here, but this isn't how the product should be designed. Overall, I think the laptop is awesome and I am disappointed I will be returning it, but I can't have a unit with irregular operating fan. -
If anybody has a M1530, does the Video card fan always spin when it's running????
on the bottom of my M1530, there is a little grate and I can see a silver fan looking object.
I have the Nvidia 8400M GS 128mb card
This is what turns on when it wants, it's not always on...just turns on for 4 seconds and off for 4 seconds.
I'm guessing this is the video card processor fan? -
What number are you calling?
Check this link.

Is this the number you called? This is XPS Tech Support for Canada.

Thank you Cin, and yes that is the same phone # I called. I was routed allover the world, I spoke with foreign people today. Not one person that I could understand nor was from Canada/US.
Cin, I know you have the M1530...do you mind telling me how your fan runs? does it constantly run or does it turn on and off? I believe it's the Video Card fan that is making the issue for me but I don't know if the M1530's video card fan is supposed to turn on and off like that.
thanks

I have heard it loudly a few times, but then..it has went away..shortly after.
Now, my battery tends to get really hot, and then if it's like that..I will surely hear the fan come on. So, in essence I will hear it turn on and off.
I'm sorry you went thru these troubles. Did you enter your Express Service Code when you called? Your supposed to be able to enter that, and be directed to XPS Tech Support.
