Hi all, ive been having the problem where when i put my laptop to sleep, i cant get it to wake up again!
I press the power button and the blue lights flash etc. however the screen just remains black!
I believe other Dell users are having the same problem, ive searched around a bit and found other posts, but no answers yet?
Can anyone help??
Thanks

anyone got any ideas?

I had a similar problem with my Alienware m15x - basically I found out I had a faulty turbocache chip - so if you have a turbocache chip that may be the problem. As soon as I removed it the computer could wake up from sleep mode again, so AW sent me a new chip which worked perfectly. If you have a turbocache chip I'd recommend you get a tech support person on the phone and have them walk you through its removal, and then you can test if sleep mode works...
Bests, MB -
OK, thanks for your help, unfortunately i dont have a turbo memory chip...
I read somewhere that it may have something to do with the network card or something but it never really explained anything or provided a fix. Does anyone know anything about this?
Its really annoying! i didnt use the sleep function beore, but now there are times when i want to use it and know i cant because it wont turn on again!
Any help much appreciated -
Right, I have found the solution to my problem! It was in a post i had previously mis-read.
If anyone else is having this problem, simply follow these instructions.
- Open Device Manager
- Find your Wireless Card, and click Properties
- Navigate to the Power Management tab
- Un-check the box that says "Allow windows to turn off this device to save power."
- Re-boot!
Hope this helps anyone else with this problem -
Ok, this is strange, the fix i stated above was working for me, but now its not...
Cant seem to figure out why. I thought it might have had something to do with switching power plans, but i have tried switching back and also changing the settings of plans but to no avail.
This thread seems pretty dead there must be someone else with the same problem? Or anyone else who can offer some advice? -
I have an M1330 and I recently encountered this problem this week. Every time I put my laptop to sleep, it won't resume (though, the laptop seems on).. so I had to hard reset. Anybody has a solution to this? I don't know if this is cause by a recent vista update or the nvidia driver...
-
Finally somebody else with the same problem!
Which nvidia drivers are you using? do you have the 8400m gs?
Also which wireless card have you got, and have you tried the fix above? -
I have 8400M GS, and my current driver is Nvidia 180.42 from Laptopvideo2go, but they have a newer one, 180.43, so I might update to that. My wireless card is Intel wireless. I was going to try your suggestion but you later stated that it didn't work. But anyhow, I will try it anyway, it might work.
-
OK, well i've got the 180.43 drivers currently on my 8600M GT, and it hasnt made any difference, im using dox's modded version.
I too have an intel wireless card.
I would be interested to see if the fix works for you...
It did work for me, but only once -
I was reading the forum at laptopvideo2go and one person stated the following:
"I also tried 180.42 and 180.43 both crach Vista at resume after sleep.
I hope they fix it soon. "
sounds like the same problem that we are having.. so maybe its the driver -
i've had similiar issue with my dell m1330 laptop, but was solved by updating the nvidia video driver.
try the suggestion above and see if it works out. -
what version is your driver @ evil_lbt?
-
version 156.83
-
So do you think it is the 180.xx drivers that are messing with things here?
Might be worth downgrading... -
Yea, that could be it. I might just downgrade from the official dell release from their driver webiste.. 176.44 V32, A10
-
yeah was thinking along the same lines.
Ill keep you posted as to if i do it and if it works! -
I downgraded my nvidia driver to 176.44 and the problem went away.. hopefully it stays that way..
-
OK, i too have downgraded to the Dell 176.44 drivers, and the problem has gone!
It would be interesting to see if the next release fixes this problem though... -
They forgot to add sleep state support in those modified driver. Driver doesnt reload properly when it wakes up, giving you nothing on screen.
-
thats odd , i am using 180.13 driver from LV2go for my Vista Ultimate X64 and never faced issues like that
-
Ah right ok. Is there a line from the non-modded .inf we could copy over or something like that to fix this problem?
Thanks for the input -
I updated to the newest 180.xx driver from lv2g last night and it would not wake from sleep this morning. Has everyone just rolled back to the latest Dell driver
-
Yeah i just rolled back and it has been working fine for me.
I might try out some of the 178.xx/179.xx as they are supposed to have good gaming performance.
I wonder if the sleep issue will still persist, is anyone running these drivers just now? any comments? -
I am pretty sure I am having the same issue. I recently upgraded the video drivers right before I cloned my hard drive to a bigger one, I assumed the sleep issue was related to something getting corrupted when I did that so I did a clean install and it came back. I think I need to roll back to a previous video driver like you did, but I was planning on sticking with the Dell provided on but I can't seem to find older versions on their site and I lost the old version I had with the clean install. any ideas?
Also, normally when you open the lid to return from sleep the power and media control buttons will all sequentially blink and it comes back up. Now with the sleep issue they don't which makes me think it might not be a video driver issue since it doesn't even appear to try to wake. Is this what yours did? -
Well, I'm not sure about the whole opening the lid issue, as i dont use this.
However, i did not have any problems returning from sleep whilst using stock Dell drivers (176.44) from here.
Whilst using other Nvidia drivers from laptopvideo2go i could not resume from sleep.
I hope this helps you, if you have any more questions just ask!
M1530 wont wake up from sleep...
