so i just installed this app in windows xp from the manuals, drivers, and apps thread in this forum:

    Turbo Memory Driver
Description: Intel Turbo Memory, Flash Cache Module
    Release: 11/02/2007, 1.5.0.1013
    Size: 25.40 MB
    Download: Intel(R)TurboMemory_All
    Source: Intel

and when i open it and poke around in there, it says that there is an unused sata port, for a total of two.
is this just a fluke in the chipset, allowing a maximum of two ports, or is there realy somewhere on the motherboard with the ability to have a second one (be it for esata or something). yes im aware that im not going to be able to pop in a second hard drive anywhere on this, and im sure there isnt space, but just out of curiosity, can anyone shed some light on this?

heres my SATA report from the application:
    hmmm

It's probably just because the chipset can support two. Dell didn't bother to stick on an extra port because there was no room for another HDD inside the case. The Dell 17" laptops can support two HDDs and use the same chipsets.

So is there an unused SATA physically inside the system except with no port?

It may or may not be wired into the motherboard. If it is, then there will likely be terminals for on the motherboard somewhere. That could be useful if Dell uses the motherboard in some other models, where they require two ports.
