What is the best way to determine the proper page file size. I have 4gb of RAM, but since i'm on a 32 bit, I only have 2.3 GB available. What would be a good page file size for my system. Should it be fixed?

Lots of debate about this but my personal preference is about 1.5 x RAM. So for you about 3GB set aside for your pagefile. Do you really need that much, who knows? Does it hurt? No, only if you are very limited on disc space, otherwise setting the pagefile to a nice fixed size like this will give Vista plenty to play with and keep it from becoming fragmented.

Is it recommended that I disable "Automatically manage paging file size for all drives" and set a custom size? My system is currently set to Automatic manage and has 3881MB allocated.

on 3GB of memory I'm thinking of setting a custom page file size instead of having it automatically managed. I am asked to set an initial size and a maximum size.
Would 3000MB be a good initial size and 3881MB a good maximum size? -

This is what you do to set your pagefile.
1. Set it to Zero or no pagefile
2. reboot into Safemode
3. Set your pagefile to 3072MB for both Min and Max
4. Defrag
5. Reboot to normal -
First, this should be in the Windows OS forum, IMHO
Second, To the OP, apart from the nice instructions above, I would still recommend you to drop by Les' Vista Tips and Tweaks sticky thread in the Windows OS forum, and read through his suggestions. And you could clarify further or ask for more information there. Cheers. -
I thought there are a recommended page file in Virtual Memory tab (where you actually change the page file size) look on the bottom of the page there are a line write : Recommended .. that the recommended page file size from microsoft why don't use that number?
And you don't have to go to safemode to change the page file do it right on your normal windows.
