For some reason as soon as i install either the official Nvidia 7950GTX drivers or the ones from Dells website, upon reboot i have no video on the laptop screen. If i hook up an external monitor then i do have video there, yet i am unable to redirect it back to the laptop as the primary monitor?

Do you have the original OS "restore" disk that came with it? Just to rule out a hardware issue. Although this sure sounds like a software issue to me. Or, do you mind loading Linux? You can just boot a LIVE distro from CD/DvD or USB if you don't want to destroy whats on the HDD. If all is well in Linux then it's def a software prob. Process of elimination bro. Knoppix has all of your drivers so it's a no brainer. Need help, lmk. www.distrowatch.com

I dont have the restore disk (but i can get it). I actually do have Knoppix around somewhere and didnt think about trying that..

I agree it does definately seem like a software issue, once install any nvidia driver it essentially blow away the laptop PnP driver and completely removes the laptop display as an option.

Also, when i go into the nvidia control panel under Set Up multiple displays..the laptop display is not even an option and neither is cloning, etc.

Ok, I went and installed XP Pro and installed the Nvidia drivers and naturally everything worked like a charm...

Decided to try Vista Ultimate 64bit with most recent Nvidia drivers and ended up with the video redirected again..I then tried older display drivers which also did not work either.

So obviously there is something going on with Vista and the Nvidia drivers with the the Go 7950GTX vid card or just plain Vista itself. I have been doing some research online and so far i have not been able to find an answer on how to resolve the issue. Some people are suggesting its the PhysX install that is intergrated with the video drivers, I will try to remove the PhysX install and just install the vid drivers and see if anything is diff.
